FACE THE HARDSHIPS WITH THE PATIENCE AND PROTECT YOUR BLESSINGS WITH GRATITUDE
"Khalifah", I called"Yes," he answered.
"I hate it when I see umma in this situation, we have to do something about it. Abba is somehow useless to us, he doesn't provide us with food or clothing. What he faces is only to get married and give birth then send away the woman", I said.
"Yes ya khady, I am also thinking about it, but Mallam Bala said I can work in his shop with Mujaheed," He said.
Mallam Bala is Mujaheed's father.
"Masha Allah, so when are you starting I think you shouldn't waste time, let's not miss this opportunity, At least you can help, Yes help umma most, she should be taken care of," I replied.
"Yes Insha Allah, I think I should start tomorrow," He said.
"Okay, Insha Allah," I said.
"Ya khady you should also do something, since we are on break. At least you shouldn't spend the holiday doing nothing at home," Khalifa advised.
"Yes, am thinking of that too. What do you suggest?" I asked.
"I don't know, anything," He replied.
"Okay, I'll think about it Insha Allah," I said.
****
It was early in the morning around 7:00 am. Umma was already awake and was doing some things in the room. I tapped Khalifa who was beside me sleeping.
"Wake up," I said tapping my brother and he woke up immediately.
"Good morning umma," We greeted.
"Morning my cookies," said umma.
"Cookies Kuma umma," We all laughed.
"No, I mean cupcakes. Now get up Khalifa and take your bath and have your breakfast," She said.
"But umma, I thought we didn't have anything thing to eat," Khalifa said.
"Your Abba gave me money," said Umma.
"What! Abba? Umma, did you just say Abba?" We questioned in shock because I can't remember the last time Abba gave her money.
"Yes your Abba, what happened?" She asked trying to act as if it was a normal thing.
"Abba gave you money so that you can buy food for us?" I asked because I couldn't process it in my mind.
"Yes," she simply said and smiled.
Wonderful
Khalifa took his bath, dressed, and started munching his bread.
"Umma I am going," He said.
She stood up and said, "Okay, Khalifa remember it's an Amana given to you, Don't do what is not right, respect your boss, don't ever cheat on him or his wealth, don't take a naira from his money without given to you or any other person's, be honest and loyal," Umma advised my brother as he is about to go to his workplace.
"Okay umma, InshaAllah I will be honest in whatever I do, Thank you," He replied.
"May Allah guide you, protect and fulfill your dreams," She prayed.
Ameen.
***
It has been a month now after Abba's wedding. Anty Zara is kind, she treats us like her own children. Alhamdulilah, she's better than the rest of my father's wives.
Khalifa came back from his workplace, a smile plastered on his face, he raised his eyebrows; meaning something happened.
I quickly dropped the clothes that I was washing and went inside the room.
"Umma, umma," Khalifa called.
"Mallam Bala paid me, He gave me four thousand naira," Khalifah spoke happily.
"Masha Allah, That is a good start son," Umma replied.
He handed the money to Umma.
"He said he was sorry he wanted to give me more because of how hard I worked but promised to give me more next time," said Khalifa.
"It's fine Khalifa, Alhamdulilah that he is praising you it means you are doing a great job, keep it up," She praised him.
"May Allah bless you and May Allah bless him too," She prayed.
Ameen
I couldn't stop smiling, seeing my brother and mother happy, How I wish they could be always happy, just like now.
"Do you know what he said?" He asked.
"No," Umma quickly nodded.
"He said I should come along with Abdul too to help because we are getting more customers," Khalifa said.
"Are you serious? Oh Allah thank you," She replied.
"He also said in the morning I'll be served breakfast and also the rest of the meals of the day, with Abdul too. I'll be having 3 good meals every day," He said happily.
Umma just hugged him, tears were flowing down her eyes.
"May Allah bless him and grant him jannatul Firdaus," She prayed.
Amin ya rabbi.
"Tomorrow Insha Allah I'll visit him and thank him or his wife," Umma said.
"And umma, his wife is so caring, she always checks up on me, She said if I am tired I can come home rest then come back later, She is really good," said Khalifa.
"Masha Allah may Allah bless them all, Amin," She prayed.
"I heard you guys talking about money, Where did you get that huge amount of money?" Abba interrupted.
We all kept quiet.
"Abba I started working for Mallam Bala in his shop," Khalifa answered.
"Oh since when? And you didn't tell me either this stupid woman," Abba said pointing a finger at Umma.
"Abba it's umma fah", I said.
"Yes umma, isn't she stupid, my child started working but she didn't bother to tell me, my child!" he spoke angrily.
"I know it's even hard labor you are doing, right?" Abba asked.
"No Abba, I am just selling things in the shop," Said Khalifa.
"Which shop? Don't tell me that big shop by the roadside," Abba asked in awe.
"Yes Abba," He replied our father
"Oh stingy boy, you inherited it from your mother," said Abba.
"Abba! Please whatever umma did to you she is sorry, You shouldn't take it seriously that you are abusing her in the presence of her children, Abba please," I couldn't keep quiet seeing how my father was treating my mother.
He just slapped me.
"How dare you talk to me like that, am your father and she's my wife, I have every right to talk to her how I want to, stupid girl. You all are just like her. Bunch of fools," Abba said
I couldn't take it, I just ran from the room, what is Abba doing? Why is he using abusive words to umma? Umma, what have you done to Abba to deserve this, I was asking no one in particular, I was just lost in my thoughts. I have to do something about it, I must bring an end to this, I can't let him destroy Umma's life, she's all I have apart from Him. Him? He's not worth to umma.
Subhanallah, ya Allah help me, help umma, make Abba a better person ya rabbi.Hello
