"No no no no not again" I mutter, catching another human from falling to the hard cement ground. This has been the third one today. Their brains were just so weak, whenever I said anything they would react. Once I had woken this man up, I was leaving. Boston is not for me. No one was near me, and people who were close had their noses in their phones. Looking back at the stranger, I realized he was breathing shallowly. His hair was mixed with black and white strands, and his sunken eyes had started to close. All he had tried to do was help me. I had quietly asked for a hot dog, and he was so friendly. He wanted to give it to me for free, but didn't understand that I wasn't homeless. Well, technically I'm homeless, but I still have my elf fund. I started to drag the human away, when a shrill voice yelled at me.
"What are you doing to my dad?" A girl with stormy gray blue eyes yelled at me. Her wavy hair fell to her shoulders, and I wished I had time to fix my own. Her face was beautiful, she might have passed for an elf.
"Oh! I just- uh..." I stammered, trying to come up with a response. She was digging around in her bag, and before I could think of anything else to do, I used another command.
"STOP!" I said, putting her dad down so I could catch her when she fell. But she looked like I had grown a second head. She kept looking through her bag, and muttered something. Probably a swear, probably aimed towards me. Human's could be very nice, but they swore more than we did.
"STOP!" I said, heart beating so hard I could hear it.
"I'm calling the police!" She said, as she pulled a pink phone out of her bag. The girl couldn't have been over 13, and I was running out of options. My hair was a sweaty mess, and I wiped it off my forehead. Running out of options, I grabbed her hand, wrestling for the phone. But when I touched her skin, it felt.... chaotic. It was cold and in a way was windy. I lurched back, like she had the black plague (a/n or covid. Both would cause him to jump away).
"You're a guster! An elf!" I stammered, and as soon as I said the words, I knew they were true.
"What? No- an elf? Like the things with pointy ears?" She said, eyebrows bunched together. In that moment she looked so much like Foster it broke my heart. Foster, who I had just left. Again. Foster, who I now had no chance with.
"You're insane. Give me my dad back!" She shrieked, pulling me back to reality.
"I will! Just give me a second to wake him up!"
"You have one minute before I- um... call the police." I have no idea what she was going to say, nor did I care. I thought of all the words I had used before, which is very easy when you have a photographic memory. I decided to just try one, that was bubbling from my gut.
"WAKE" He suddenly opened his eyes, gasping for air. He was looking everywhere, until his eyes settled on his daughter.
"Violet?" He rasped, and he barely got the word out before she wrapped him in a bear hug.
"Oh my god- I thought- I had done it again-" They both were a mess, tears streaming down their faces. I started to walk away, hoping that I could get out of there before they noticed I was gone. But as soon as I started to leave, I walked into a wall of air. I tried to get out of it, but it was everywhere. It was like being in the middle of a tornado, but much more terrifying. I managed to turn around enough to see Violet stand up and strid towards me. I have no idea how, but no humans have come over yet. Is it possible they are this oblivious? Even Foster would notice.
"You helped my dad, so I'm going to help you." Violet said, letting the winds die down. I swallowed my nausea, trying to stand up straight.
"Well lucky for you, I don't need help." I said, running my hand through my hair, which resulted in getting my hair caught in knots.
"Sure you don't" Violet smirked as I tried to remove my hand from my hair, looking like an idiot.
"Okay I might need some help." I said, feeling my face go red.
"Do you know anyone named Sophie Foster?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I watch Violet's face lose all of it's color.
"If being Aubrey- I mean Amy's girlfriend counts, then yes."
