Chapter Twenty Six: Keefe

"I love you so much..." Sophie trailed off, and I knew that I would never get tired of hearing it. 

"I love you too." I whispered into her ear, quiet enough that no one could hear except the two of us. Over her shoulder I could see Fitz's face darken, his eyebrows furrowed together. I ignored him, knowing that I would have to deal with him later. Sophie's dirty blonde hair  was wrapped up in my hands, and I pulled her closer. Just as our lips were about to meet, I could hear Bangs Boy scream. 

"Glimmer!" He shouted, and ran to her. Sophie pulled away from me, tear stained cheeks still red. There was a girl with pitch black hair, who Elwin was currently patching up. She was the girl I had seen in my dream, dressed like an angle. Even seeing her inside my head, her beauty didn't hold a candle to Sophie's. 

"Glimmer..." Biana muttered, but almost immediately turned all of her attention to Linh instead. Once I got my memory back, I realized that Lihn and Biana were perfect for eachother. I always assumed that Biana had a crush on Tam, especially after Fitz had said that Biana was 'a fan of silver bangs.' Linh held her hand, while Tam and Glimmer started making out. I mean, Biana and Tam had just broken up. But then again, Biana weren't exactly sobbing and eating ice cream in front of f-r-i-e-n-d-s. Which I now realize is what Sophie and I did while we were sad. 

"Are you okay?" Sophie said, snapping my head back at me. Despite me nodding, she lifted my shirt up to check. There was no scar, no redness, no pain. Mouth agape, Sophie touched my skin in disbelief. 

"Are you guys done?" Fitz snapped, stepping towards us. "We need to check our dead." That stopped everyone in their tracks. 

"You won't find any Neverseen, and if you move quick enough, you won't suffer any casualties." Glimmer said, bringing all the eyes in the room to her. "uh.. what I mean is that the Neverseen is practicing with new abilities, and if they have been dead for less than a week, they still have a tiny bit of energy. I can try to pull them back, but it doesn't always work." Before Glimmer could even get her sentence out, people were rushing outside, trying to find their friends. I scrambled after them, Sophie pulling me up. Biana and Linh were sprinting out of the room, Elwin was starting a makeshift hospital in the hallway we were in for Glimmer, and Sophie looked so happy she could burst. 

"I thought that Bo was... but now." She panted, already starting a sprint. I followed after her as quickly as I could, which wasn't very quick. I mean, I had just died. When we saw our first body, it's wasn't Bo. His strawberry blonde hair was a mess, twigs and mud sticking out of it. Their periwinkle eyes were closed, but I couldn't see why he had died. I went around him to pick him up, where is became apparent. He had multiple daggers sticking into his back, which he could have survived if he had made it to Elwin in time. And he was about 10 feet from the door. Sophie, who had just noticed, took a sharp breath. "Dex..." She trailed off. "Dex is going to be so angry with himself, and you just know he'll make it seem like it was his fault." We just had to get him to Glimmer, and he would be okay. Biana approached us, her dress soaked in a mixture of dried and fresh blood. When she saw who was in my arms, she shouted out his name in alarm. 

"LEX!" She screamed, and then immediately covered her mouth with her hands. His fingers were blue from the ice he had fought with. 

"It's okay! We got him early, so the chances that it will work are high." Sophie said, trying to calm Biana down. She was nodding her head as if she was trying to make herself believe it. "Keefe, bring him to Glimmer, and I'll go get Bo. Biana, come with me in case we see anyone else." With our assignments, I rushed off to the house holding Lex's limp body in my arms. 

TiME jUmP tO a WeEK iN thE FuTURe 

"We have lost many people that day, but we will not forget them. Many who were injured are still recovering, and wish that they could be here. We are honoring the fallen among us, such as Mai Song, Vika Heks, Lesedi Chebota, and Shayda Adel." I'm sure Alden meant well by it, but I couldn't stop thinking that this is all my fault. NO IT ISN'T. Sophie's booming voice took over my head. UHHHH YEAH IT IS. I replied, just as loud. Keefe, you know what that train of thought can get you. Sophie said, eyebrows furrowing in concern. Fitz wrapped his arm around Sophie even tighter, and she was forced to break our eye contact. We were standing on opposite sides of the field, but we had been communicating this entire service. Even if she was technically on a date with Fitz. Also, WORST DATE EVER. Sure, I like this girl a lot, I should take her to a funeral. Great moves Fitz. Oh no... Look at Stina and Maruca. Sophie said, so I very slowly turned my head. Maruca was sobbing and leaning against Stina, who was stroking her head and whispering things into her ear. Stina's face was like a block of cement- unreadable. And Dex kept shifting his eyes to Sophie and Fitz, but he wasn't looking at Sophie. In the past, Dex has disliked Fitz, even hated him. Now, I wonder if he wants to  be more than friends. After Lex had pulled through, Dex had come out Sophie and I. He had said that 'Life is scary, and it could end at any moment.' Oh, and also the unspoken thing that Sophie and I both got from that, was the Dexphie kiss showed Dex that girls weren't for him. "Thank you all for coming." Alden was FINALLY wrapping up his speech, and I had made it through the entire thing without crying. Low goal, but whatever. Wanna meet up later? I asked Sophie, but had no response. I looked over, to see her face was pale. 

"She's back." Biana shouted, Linh covering her as much as she could. I didn't need to see my mother to know who they were talking about. I ran to Sophie as fast as I could, and Sophie broke free from Fitz's 'loving' embrace and ran to me. I grabbed her, and turned to face my least favorite mother.
