(a/n hi! there is some mild language in this chapter, but nothing too bad. )
"AAaaaand that's basically it." Sophie finished, wringing her hands together.
"Basically." Tam said, his face blank. We were outside, and the temperature was perfect, maybe a little chilly. But I had already sweat through my tunic.
"Well we have some theories, and Keefe read Mr.Forkles emotions when we told him, so we should have some more when he wakes." Sophie said, avoiding Tam's eyes. But I looked up for a second, and we locked glances. Tam was scowling, but his frown lessened when I gave him a little smile. I don't know why Tam was acting like this, and I don't know why I felt so guilty. Coughing, I looked away, my cheeks burning.
"Do you have a plan?" Dex finally spoke, his voice echoing in my head.
"That's where Team Vaillant comes in!" God, that was the worst name ever. I tried to be supportive, but we should've let Keefe name the team. Not because I liked him, but because the one thing that he is good at is names. I mean, I am all for team Sokeefe, and I want Fitzphe to die. Even though Fitz is my brother. I don't know why, but I suspect that Keefe did that on purpose.
"Sooo... you don't actually have a plan." I said, looking straight at Sophie.
"Kind of. I have like- a half baked plan. More like it burnt in the oven." Sophie sighed. She was met with blank stares. "You know, an oven." What crazy human thing was she talking about now. "An oven! I swear I've seen some here!" Sophie exclaimed.
"Do you mean a JDSF?" Dex asked.
"It's a machine that you put ingredients into, and then the food comes out. It's full name is Joey Doesn't Share Food, because the guy Joey who created it was... kinda wack." I jumped in. Now I was met with a blank face. "Anyway, give us this 'half baked' plan of yours." I said, my face flushed. Just as Sophie was about to delve in, Elwin came bursting out of the room.
"Sophie. I think you need to come. Now." The look of urgency on Elwins face was enough to get Sophie leaping of the grass she was sitting on and run into the room. Not wanting to be left alone with Tam and Dex, I hurried after her. I turned myself invisible, and felt the odd sensation of letting light go through me. Every time I did, I felt like myself. Turning visible was always such a disappointment. I tripped on my shoe, like the clutz I was, and Elwin ran past me. Weirdly, Sophie and Elwin fell into a rhythm, both running the same pace, the same way. Looking at the two of them, they kind of looked like fath... never mind. It was crazy! They couldn't be-but Elwin loved Sophie. And Sophie loved Elwin. They both had the same laugh, and when they smiled their eyes would crinkle. And Elwin would snort sometimes, and also liked Keefe. I heard yelling from the other room, and I pushed the thought away. Like, far away. I got back up, and turned the corner to see Keefe on a table, using a chair as a weapon, forcing anyone away that got to close.
"Keefe it's me! Foster!" Sophie yelled, trying to get his attention.
"I don't know who you are!" Keefe shrieked, and when she tried to step closer to him, he almost fell off of the table. Still invisible, I launched myself onto Keefe, and pinned him down. He was flailing against me, and he even hit me in the jaw once. Eventually, he started to calm down, and I started to talk to him.
"Keefe. You are an elf, and you lost your memory. You are surrounded by people who love you, so you better stop hurting them by losing your damn mind." He scanned the room with his eyes, and when he found a sobbing Sophie, his face softened.
"Okay. You can let go now." Keefe growled, turning is focus to the invisible force that was holding him down. I changed back to normal, and went to go hold Sophie, who had stopped crying and was silently shaking.
"Keefe. I'm Elwin. I'm going to help you get your memories back. Okay?" Elwin said, hands up. Keefe looked like he was about to nod, when his face hardened again.
"But where are my parents?" Keefe said, and the only response we gave was our gaping mouths and wide eyes.
"Do you remember your parents?" Violet said, stepping forward. At this he scoffed, like she had said the stupidest thing. Then realization dawned on his face, and he sat down, legs dangling off the wooden table. He put his head in his hands, and whispered so quietly no one could hear. No one but me.
"Who am I?"
