We pulled away from each other, both gasping for air.
"Foster, I've loved you since the moment I saw you." Keefe breathed, hair disheveled and a wild grin on his face.
"I didn't know. I never thought I had a chance with you." I admitted, grabbing Keefes hand.
"Could I have made any more jokes without Fitz trying to fight me?" He laughed.
"No, probably not." I laughed. I felt a cool breeze go through my hair like I was a disney princess. But Keefe looked embarrassed.
"We should probably get back to Amy and Violet... I think they are getting a bit impatient." Keefe whispered, slipping his arm around my shoulder. I peeked over my arm, and saw a wide eyed Amy gawking, and Violet with a look that screamed 'I told you so.' I felt another burst of wind, and this time I knew it couldn't have been a coincidence.
"Keefe, is there any chance you got another ability as a guster?" I pondered. A very long silence followed. I looked at Keefe, who was looking at Violet, who was trying to hide a smile.
"If he did, I would be super jealous because that's my thing." Violet grinned.
"You're joking right?" I said, expecting her to laugh and say 'nope! What even is a guster?'. Instead I got even more stares. "woah.." I gasped. I had never even considered Violet being an elf. I mean, she was very attractive. With her stormy gray blue eyes, I guess it made sense. And whenever I visited Amy, Violet was also there, and it was also kind of chilly. Is this why Keefe was at Amy's house? I mean, I'm very glad he was here, but I still wish I had known.
"We need to get you to the council. Right now." Keefe joshed. Even though this was massive news, I started laughing, and so did Keefe.
"Yeah, I completely respect the council and they can handle this situation better than we can." I added, my laughter turning into wheezing, and Keefe howling. Amy gave a little giggle, but Violet seemed mostly confused.
"Riiiiight. Okay, I'm glad you're amusing yourselves but I think I need some help containing it. Or learning how to 'control' it. I've already hurt my dad before, and I can't bear to hurt anyone else. At this point I'm afraid to hang out with Aubrey, because I don't want to hurt her. Kind of like when Keefe left Sophie, because he didn't want to hurt her with his new ability." Violet said.
"But also not like that!" Amy spluttered.
"Yeah, because we're friends and not dating." Violet snapped.
"...yeah" Amy's voice quavered. "Hey I think before Keefe said he needed to go to the bathroom? Violet, can you show him where that is?"
"I don't ne-" Keefe started.
"Sure I can." Violet interjected, dragging Keefe across the lawn.
As I turned my focus back to Amy, I saw her looking at Violet like I used to look at Fitz, or how Keefe looks at me. Could she.... no. Amy likes boys. But she's never mentioned any crushes before. But we don't usually talk about things like that to begin with, and I have barely been talking to her lately. I also need to start using my spyball much more, I have been way too self centered lately.
"I was hoping we could talk." Amy said, snapping me back to reality.
"Oh! Yeah sure." I replied, focusing on Amy.
"Violet and I..." Amy began, her cheeks flushing. "We... you know what, I think she does need help controlling her powers." Amy squeaked. "If not the council, who could we go to? We have some theories about why she grew up with humans, and most of them involve the Black Swan. Personally, I'd like to avoid going to them."
"The Black Swan? Don't worry Amy, they're good guys. It took me a while to trust them, but I do now. They can help us." I reassured her, putting my hand on her arm. She looked at the gesture and smiled, but still looked worried.
"That's not really what we're concerned about." Amy admitted.
"Amy, just tell me. You're starting to freak me out." I said, forcing a smile. She was normally such a sharp shooter, why was she beating around the bush?
"Really? I mean, you've been through a lot. I'd have to be pretty scary to freak you out." Amy chuckled.
"Don't underestimate yourself." I snorted. Ew. I need to stop snorting.
"Okay. Okay, I can tell you. You just want to know, you won't be upset. Right?" Amy said, raising her eyebrow.
"Amy, of course I won't be upset." She didn't speak, and instead glued her eyes down to the floor. "I promise. Now just tell me!" I said, losing my patience and my nerve. She glanced up, any trace of fear replaced with fleeting bravery.
"Okay. We think that the Black Swan might have made more than one kid. Because honestly, Mr.Forkle admitted that there were things he wasn't telling you, and they put so much pressure on you! And being a guster is one of the most powerful abilities you can have, and it's pretty rare." Amy whispered. "So all in all... we think that Violet is an elf. And we also think she's not done manifesting."
