(a/n hi guys!! I will be going back to school FIVE DAYS A WEEK starting Tuesday, which is totally crazy on it's on. BUT it also means that I won't be able to write as much! So this is kinda my farewell chapter, but I will try my hardest to keep updating.)
Ruy struck me, red in the face.
"How DARE you." They spat at me, making me realize that telling her that I wanted to leave the Neverseen was the worst idea ever. "I wish that you weren't the one with this power, that someone worthy had it." Ruy grabbed my hood and shoved it back down, so no one could see my emerald blue eyes and dark curls.
"I know.." I blubbered, blinking away tears.
"Do you?" They shrieked, visibly restraining themself from hitting me again. I started to nod, which only made their face redder. "Keefe's dead, so we have a new mission. Get dressed." Ruy slammed the door, and I let myself cry. Ten seconds is all I have. Each day, I let myself have ten seconds to cry. One. My little sister, the only person Lady Gisela doesn't want to kill. Two. My mother, and the people she used to help before she quit. Three. My father, and the way he laughed. Four. Tam, and his cute smile. Five. The way he would smile whenever I entered a room. Six. The first time he saw me without my hood, and kissed me. Seven. The kiss. Eight. Living with Tam, sharing a room. Nine. Tam's hair, and how he almost cut off his bangs, but I told him to stop. Ten. I will be free eventually, even if that means I have to die. Because I'll still be free. My tears stopped, and I grabbed my fighting clothes. Just as I put my jacket on, I knew that it would become bloodsoaked, just like all the ones before it. I sat on my stiff bed, knowing I had a minute before everyone came charging through my door, and grabbing me by the arms. I closed my eyes, seeing Tam, like his face was tattooed to my eyelids. Just as I stood up from my bed, the Neverseen opened my door, but this time was more careful. Instead of hurting me, they were very gentle. I couldn't see anyone's face which was usual, but I had no idea why they were being this kind.
"We have one last person for you to resuscitate before you leave." A deep voice said, who was holding my arm. They guided me to the room where 'the magic happens', or what I like to call, 'hell in one tiny room.' The member who had spoken before began to unlock the door, using the chain with keys around their neck. As the door creaked open, the darkness was overwhelming. As my eyes started to adjust, I could see a body on the table, a chair, and a glass of water. The Neverseen shuffled in behind me, and I crouched down to see who it was. Her sunken blue eyes were open, dress stained with dry blood. Her pale skin looked paper white in the darkness, if that was even possible.
"How- Who has done this?" I spoke rapidly, trying to get away from this body. In the past, knowing how they died had helped me, made it easier. Well, that's what I told the Neverseen, so I knew what was going on.
"Ms. Vacker and Ms. Foster. Stabbed through the back." They took a step back, as if telling me that it was time to bring her back. Vespera was the most vile, curl elf that I have ever met, who treated everyone like garbage. She would kill thousands more if I awoke her. I saw a glint of sliver, and knew that they were armed. I launched myself at them, throwing their hood off and yanking their knife. As soon as they realized what was happening, I had stabbed their leader and was holding the knife up to my throat.
"Come any closer and I kill myself." I yelled, and all of them jumped back in alarm.
"If you kill yourself, your entire family will die." One member took a step forward, which caused me to dig the knife into my throat even deeper.
"Describe them." The only hope I had was that they were bluffing, that they didn't have the foggiest clue who my parents were.
"Your mother had dark hair just like you, and has ice blue eyes.Your father has dark brown hair-"
Before they could say another word, I barreled past the Neverseen, but not before one stuck me with a dagger. I kept going, and before they could follow, I was gone. I started to run, ignoring the pain in my side, ignoring the fact that they could still hurt my friends and family. But I reminded myself that my mother had sea blue eyes, and that pushed me to run just a little bit faster. I pictured Keefe, and Sophie, and Tam.
"Stop her!" Someone shrieked, but the light was already filtering through my body, and I was seeing flashes of a sobbing Sophie. I could feel an arrow lodge itself in my back, and another in my thigh. But it was too late, I was already gone. Sophie wasn't the only one who's DNA had been tampered.
"Move!" I yelled, shoving Elwin aside. I bent down next to Keefe, holding his hand. I pictured him being alive, of his smiles, of how he made Sophie so happy. Tam told me many stories, most of them putting him in a bad light. Sophie started screaming, and Biana started yelling at me.
"Who are you?" I could feel the light going through me, passing onto Keefe. His grip got tighter, but he wouldn't be able to fully come back unless he could heal. I pulled the sword out of his stomach, causing a stream of blood to start. The wound began to heal, and his hand was getting warmer and warmer. I let go, knowing that he could come back on his own. "Oh my god.." Biana trailed off, and the adrenaline was slowly wearing off, so my pain began. Elwin rushed over to me, and started handing my elixirs which I happily drank. Even when they had no idea who I was, the Black Swan tried to help me.
"Sophie!" Keefe yelled, tackling her into a bear hug. Sophie crumpled into his embrace, her sobs slowly abating.
"I love you so much..." She trailed off, and I noticed Fitz's face darken. Elves started to trickle into the hallway, and my body had gone completely numb thanks to the elixirs. Elwin started to take the arrows out, and I only felt a little pinch each time. I kept hoping that Tam would turn around the corner, even if he had already moved on from me. My eyes looked around the room, only to find Biana and Lihn embracing in a way friends don't...
"Glimmer!" Tam rushed to me, hugging me. I felt at home, and tears of joy slipped through.
"Glimmer?" Biana mumbled, but didn't seem to care that much.
"Tam." I said, trying to stop crying. I knew that I couldn't kiss him right now, not in front of his girlfriend and his sister. But maybe an ex girlfriend... Before I could overthink anything else, Tam's lips were on mine, and they tasted sweet. I never wanted to let go.
