(a/n there is some mild language in this chapter, but nothing too bad. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up!)
Sophie
I am going to tell him. I will. Maybe I won't. No, I will.
"Keefe, I saw the journal. I saw... what you wrote in it." I admitted. Keefe swore under his breath. His golden hair looked messy, and bags under his eyes gave away that he hadn't been sleeping much. Still, the sight of his face made butterflies flutter inside of me. Violet and Amy were in the background, talking to each other in hushed voices.
"Well... I felt- maybe- Ikindareallylikeyoualot." Keefe blurted out. He blushed, and his cheeks turned strawberry red. I don't think I've ever seen Keefe this vulnerable. Or BLUSHING. "But if you don't like me the same way, or if you got back together with Fitz, that's totally okay. It's completely your choice and... I just think if I didn't tell you I'd regret it."
"Well technically you didn't tell me, I found out."
"Technically, I've said it a lot, and you just thought I was joking."
I was smiling so wide my face hurt. I needed to get over there. I thought I could do this over an imparter, but I was finding it vital to see him face to face. Before I could back out of it, I ended the call and started to run out of my room. I went down the stairs and passed a very startled Edaline. I ran so fast the wind was whipping my face. I was wearing a red tunic, and the grass felt wet in between my toes. I hoped I wouldn't look like a complete mess when I got there. I pictured the backyard I had seen in the imparter, and before I knew it, I was leaving Havenfield.
Keefe
That was the worst possible reaction I could have hoped for. She just... left. I felt hollow inside, and I didn't realize how much I had depended on Sophie. Everything around me had a green tint, and I felt like I might throw up.
"Hey! Why'd the imparter go dark?" Violet shouted. Amy and Violet walked over to me, and I scrambled for a response that wasn't related to me getting rejected by the girl of my dreams.
"Uhhh.... Foster said she had to go." I lied. Quite smoothly if I do say so myself.
"If you say so. Did she say that you should come back to the elves?" Amy pried.
"It... was a quick conversation so... that didn't really come up." I faltered.
"I really can't believe a conversation could be that fast." Violet jeered. She crossed her arms, disbelief clear on her face. I couldn't believe it either. I mean, Foster isn't a mean person. Even if she was going to reject me, I thought she'd have the dignity to tell me. I couldn't even bear to look at her, so I can only imagine the pity on her face. The only girl I could think about for years basically said she didn't like me. The only person I've ever loved, including my parents, just left. Without a word. Well, 9 words, but I would have prefered her to just tell me I had no chance. So maybe, I could finally start to get over her. It's not like people haven't tried to date me before. But I compare them to Foster, and I just give up. Maybe it's time to move on. Maybe-
"What the hell?" Violet shrieked as a blur of a person ran through the garden. Amy caught her as she tripped over herself trying to run away. The person slowed down, letting me see their face.
"Foster?" I exclaimed. Before I could say more, I could feel her lips on mine.
Sophie
My heartbeat was beating faster than it had been when Fitz had said or done anything to me. Keefe wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer. Dex couldn't compare. That was a terrible thing to think about. Oh god, just enjoy this. Wait, can Keefe feel my emotions right now? I really hope not. I heard some giggles, but I blocked them out. At this moment in time, everything was perfect.
