Chapter Twenty-Two - Butterflies

**JADE's POV**

I looked away when we were about fifteen feet away from the ground, caused by my fear of heights.

As we slowly got up, the shivers and chills all over me are also slowly rising.

Oh my god. Why am I feeling nervous all of a sudden? It's not like this was my first hang out with Darren. I mean, I've experienced a lot of alone-moments with him already! Why am I feeling like this?

After I faced at Darren's direction, that was the time I knew why I was getting chills.

He was staring at me.

I was in pure surprisement when I caught him looking at me. His stare was heart-stopping; the moment I saw his eyes planted on me, I felt something weird in my stomach.

How long was he staring at me.

After what seemed like three seconds, he lets out such an adorable smile that could melt a girl badly and looks away shyly.

And that, just made my heartbeat quicken.

Thankfully, I was able to think of a remedy. I looked around the surroundings and let it swarm in my mind. The Ferris wheel was actually going very slow, and I give the operator a thumbs up for that.

I love how the cool air was blowing mildly through my hair. It made me feel like a Sunsilk endorser for a moment. We were already pretty high from the ground, but damn, I love the view from here.

I could see the whole carnival from up here. All the rides, the games, the food, everything. It became quieter and peaceful here, I thanked Darren mentally for bringing me into this place.

This place really calmed me down from what happened at the back of one of the school canteens. Jessica's words may be haunting right now, but nothing's worse than what Ericka did.

She never fought for me. All she did was to stare and just let Jessica do what she wanted. She never stood up for me, at least talk something. I thought she would.

Forget it, Jade. You're having a good time with Darren here. Don't let it take over the happiness you're feeling right now.

I was looking at the surroundings with a smile when a sight suddenly stopped me from beaming. It was that goddamn clown again and what makes it worse was that it didn't just stared at me, it was on the same place I saw it before and it was forming a heart too!

Wait, how long has he been doing that?!

I really wanna throw thousands of atomic bombs to that stupid clown by now. Clowns are crazy!

I was going to flip my middle finger to it - if only he could see me from up here - when suddenly, I felt a hand planted on top of mine.

I felt heat rise up to my cheeks and I felt something unexplainable in my tummy as I face Darren, seeing him eyeing me with worry.
