Chapter Thirty-Six - A Friend

D A R R E N

(3 Days before Ericka's confession)

I walked inside Starbucks keeping my head down to keep my identity a secret from all the people here. I scanned the café and found her sitting while typing on her phone on the farthest table where a small number of people were around, giving her privacy.

My palms were sweaty when I rubbed them together as I walked towards her, keeping my speed slow to give myself time to calm down on the way.

What could be the reason why my ex-girlfriend wants to talk to me at 4 in the afternoon?

She finally tore her eyes away from her phone and locked her gaze on me, her eyes widening a bit for a while. She straightened up and smiled the smile that used to ignite my heart and bring butterflies to my stomach, but that effect is obviously extinct already, and spoke, "You're here."

I shot her a small smile and a nod and awkwardly sat down in front of her. She put her iPhone on the table, her phone case that was filled with red and pink roses catching my attention.

I think Jade would like it if I give her a phone case that was filled with sunflowers. She loves sunflowers.

Oh, Darren. You really couldn't get that girl out of your head, could you?

I pushed the thought of Jade's pretty face smiling widely as she receives the phone case away before I smile out of nowhere. God, that girl drives me crazy.
