It's been a long time

Chapter 30

Thanksgiving. Meredith and dereks favorite time of the year. After Amelias accident, she was now in rehab, so she wouldn't be joining this year.

They woke up early in each other's arms. Meredith her an arm slung tightly around dereks waist, her head burrowed into her bare abdomen. "Happy thanksgiving." He whispered as he kissed her head gently. "Happy thanksgiving." She replied sleepily.

A little while later, they both got out of bed and went downstairs. "What time do we have to be at moms?" Meredith asked. "I think 10." Derek replied. Meredith looked at the clock. It was 8:30. "We'll leave at 9:30." She said. "Don't eat too much. Mom and dad like to go all out." Meredith added with a chuckle.

After a small breakfast, they got ready. Meredith decided on a pair of light wash jeans and a white sweater, and Derek decided on a pair of jeans and a sweater vest. "How do I look?" Derek asked sarcastically as he gave a twirl. "Hot." Meredith replied as she walked over and cupped his face softly and kissed him. "I'm thankful for you." She whispered. "I'm thankful for you too." He repeated as he kissed her once more.

"Let's get going. We're dead if we're late." Derek said with a smile. She nodded and they went out to the car and began the short drive to Carolyn and Chrisopthers house.

All morning, Carolyn had been preparing for thanksgiving. Anytime her babies are all together, she went all out. Everyone except Amelia, Meredith Derek, Mark, and Addison were there. So that meant that right now she had 3 daughters there, and a ton of young kids ranging from 1-5. "Mom, you need any help?" Nancy asked, holding her youngest daughter, Maddy. "I'm good, sweetheart. Meredith and Derek should be here soon, same with Mark and Addie." Carolyn replied.

About 20 minutes later, Meredith and Derek arrived. "Hi guys!" Carolyn and Christopher exclaimed as they walked into the door, taking them both into long hugs. "Hey!" Derek and Meredith said with a smile. "Happy thanksgiving." Carolyn said. "You too." Meredith replied.

"Auntie Meredith!" A little girl yelled happily as she ran over, colliding into Merediths legs. "Hi Riley!" Meredith exclaimed as she picked up the 3 year old in her arms, hugging her close. Riley was lizzies baby. "Uncle Derek!" Another kid yelled loudly. "Hi Andrew!" He replied as he hugged the 6 year old.

"Okay guys, let's give them some space to get settled in." Chrisopther said with a laugh. They walked into the kitchen and greeted every Shepherd sister. "Meh!" Maddy tried to say from Nancy's arms, reaching her arms out to her. Meredith smiled and took her in her free arm, giving her a kiss on the head. "Our kids like you more than us." Nancy joked.

Derek smiled at his wife holding their nieces. She was so good with babies, even though she said she wasn't. Carolyn noticed the longing look on her sons face and smirked, knowing exactly what he was looking at.

"Mark and Addie are here!" Kathleen exclaimed as she opened the door. "Hi guys!" Addison squealed. "Hey!" Everyone exclaimed. "Happy thanksgiving." Mark said with a smile. "Happy thanksgiving." They replied as Carolyn ushered them into the house.

It was a full house, with at  7 little kids running around and 13 adults. "Wow Mer, you look like a mommy!" Addison said as she walked over. She chuckled and looked down at the young girls in her arms, who both looked half asleep. "What can I say? I'm the favorite aunt." She replied.

They all sat in the living room and chatted for a while. Meredith was too caught up in the 3 year old and 2 year old she was talking to to even listen to the conversation everyone else was having. "She's good with them." Carolyn said quietly to Everybody as she looked at her daughter in law. "When can we expect some from you two?" She asked. Derek laughed nervously. "Were planning on maybe two years, when we finish our internship. But it'll happen when it happens." Derek replied.

"What about you two?" Christopher asked Mark and Addison. "Probably the same." Addison replied. "Before Derek and Meredith. We have to be first." Mark said competitively. "Hey Meredith!" Derek called out. She snapped her head up and smiled. "What's up?" She asked. "We have to have kids before them." Derek said simply.

"Why?" Meredith asked in amusement. "We have to beat Mark and Addie." Derek replied. "It'll happen when it happens." Meredith said with a chuckle at her husbands antics. "Kathleen, do you need some help?" Carolyn asked softly. She had just recently had a baby and the baby wouldn't stop crying.

"Good luck. She doesn't like to be held by anyone except Tyler. And me sometimes, but she's not having it right now." Kathleen said as she handed over the wailing baby.

Carolyn did not have the magic touch. "Let me try." Meredith said. "You have your hands full." Carolyn replied. Nancy then gently took Maddy and Lizzie took Riley from her arms. She stood up and walked over to Carolyn and gently took the baby over. After a few soothing words and bobbing up and down, the baby seemed to relax and stop crying.

"Your never leaving us again. Ever." Kathleen said in shock. "I'm the baby whisperer." Meredith said quietly. "I can't wait for you to have kids." Carolyn said softly.

At around 3, the shepherds began eating Carolyns thanksgiving feast. It was delicious, to say the least. Meredith, of course, had Maddy pinned on her lap, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

When they went home for the night, Derek and Meredith curled up in each other's arms in bed. "I can't wait to have kids." Derek whispered. "Neither can I." Meredith replied, much to dereks surprise. "We still agreed on when our internship is over, right?" He asked. Meredith nodded. "We're gonna be good parents." She whispered. "The kids loved you today." He said. Meredith smiled. "I love you." He said. "I love you too." She replied.
