It's been a long time

Chapter 43

Meredith and Derek slept in as their flight was at 3pm. They woke up around 10:30. "Ready for vacation?" Derek asked as he held her small form in his arms.

"Yeah." Meredith mumbled sleepily as she pressed her face into his bare chest. Derek wrapped an arm around her back and held her close. "No work for 2 weeks. Moms watching Shep, right?" Meredith asked. "She is. We're gonna drop him off on the way." He replied.

They got out of bed and made their way downstairs. They packed everything the previous night, so they didn't have to worry about that. They poured their coffee and sat down on the couch with Shep. "You're a good boy, aren't you? Are you gonna have fun with Mama Shep?" Meredith cooed.

"Mama Shep?" Derek asked amused at his wife. "Oh, yes you are." She said happily, ignoring Derek. Derek chuckled and scratched behind the dogs ears. Shep barked at Derek and climbed onto his lap, getting a laugh out of his owners.

They drank their coffee slowly while chatting about their upcoming vacation, and before they knew it, it was 1:30, and they had to leave for the airport. Derek packed the suitcases into the car while Meredith got Shep situated with her in the front seat.

They drove off to Carolyn and Christopher's house and knocked at the door. "Hi guys." Carolyn said with a smile. "Hi Shep." She cooed to the puppy. "So, everything should be in this bag. If you need anything call us." Meredith said with a smile as she handed over the dog. "Okay. Have fun you guys and be safe. We love you." Carolyn said happily.

They got back into the car and drove to the airport this time. They parked the car and Met up with Addison and Mark in security. "Hey guys! Ready for a whole week of drinking and having fun?" Mark asked enthusiastically. "Hell yeah!" Meredith said with a big smile.

They got through security and checked their bags in. "Anyone want to get food with me?" Mark asked. "I will. Mer, want anybting?" Derek asked. "Get me whatever you think I think please." Meredith requested with a smile. With a nod, Derek and Mark were off.

"Mark and I talked about babies again last night." Addison blurted. "You did?" Meredith asked. She nodded. "Probably soon, Mer. I-I'm really excited. And ready." Addison said, not being able to contain the smile that graced her face.

"That's awesome Addie. You're going to an amazing mom." Meredith said. "Marks going to be an amazing father. I just know it." Addison said with a big smile. "You're going to be fantastic parents." Meredith said genuinely. "Thanks Mer. When are you and Derek gonna...." Addison trailed off. "Probably a year or two." Meredith replied.

"I can't wait. Our kids are going to be best friends." Addison said. "They will." Meredith agreed. They chatted for a few more minutes before the boys arrived back. "A Strawberry donut and a medium iced coffee." Derek said as he handed her the pastry and drink. "Thank you Derek." She said as he sat down and gave her a quick kiss.

30 minutes later, they all boarded the plane. They had seats across from eachother. "I still hate planes." Meredith muttered as the plane roared to life and began moving. Derek chuckled and grabbed her hand tightly, squeezing it gently.

Before they knew it, they were in the air, and Addison and Mark both headed towards the bathroom. "They're definetely joining the mile high club." Meredith giggled. "One hundred percent." Derek replied with a smirk. "We should later too." He whispered huskily. Tingles ran down Merediths back and she nodded. "On the way home?" She asked. "Sounds good to me." Derek replied as he kissed her softly.

Mark and Addison came back together, happiness evident on their face and Derek and Meredith gave them a smirk. Mark smiled cockily and triumphantly as he let out sigh.

After a long 8 hour flight, it was near 11 when they arrived at the Aruba airport. They were all exhausted and trudged to get their luggage. They got into their rental car, and Derek opted to drive while everyone else snoozed in the car.

They arrived at the house they rented and got their stuff inside. "Longest flight ever." Meredith groaned. "8 hours." Addison said sleepily. "Let's get you girls to bed." Derek said with a smile. Derek wrapped an arm around Merediths waist and they both walked to their bedroom, which was the master. Derek laid her down and then climbed in behind her. "Goodnight Meredith. I love you." Derek whispered with a soft smile as he pressed a kiss to her neck. "Goodnight Der." Meredith mumbled back sleepily.

Mark and Addison did the same and fell asleep quickly. In the morning, they wouldn't have to worry about work at all. It was vacation time, relaxing time. And they would enjoy it.
