It's been a long time

Chapter 60

14 weeks came quickly and Meredith completely popped overnight. She noticed first while she was taking a shower, and stepped out. She looked in the mirror and her jaw dropped.

It was noticeable now. Noticeable that she was housing a little baby. And she loved it. "Derek!" She yelled. Derek ran up the stairs quickly and threw up eh the door.

"What is it- oh, Mer." He gasped as he saw her little pouch. Normally, he would be turned on by her nakedness, but the awe of their baby showing its presence overwhelmed that.

"I popped." Meredith said with a smile. "You did. Wow!" Derek exclaimed as he went to his knees and kissed her belly.

"What's up little man? You're growing healthy and strong in there, aren't you?" Derek murmured. Meredith giggled and ran a hand through dereks thick curls.

"Are we still going to see mom and dad today?" Mer asked. "That's the plan. I heard mom made a ton of casseroles." Derek said with a laugh as he stood up.

Derek kissed her softly and kept his arms around her. "Now, how about you get dressed?" He suggested. "You have to let me go first." Meredith smirked. Derek rolled his eyes and left the room.

She changed into a flowy dress, that while it was flowy, it also showed off her small baby bump.

The two of them got into the car and drove to him he Shepherd house. Meredith, on the way, began to think about how her pregnancy was going.

She felt fine. The morning sickness had subsided quite a bit, but her body was changing. Her breasts had defiantly gotten fuller, her hips had rounded out, and now her stomach had a little pouch.

And she loved it. Knowing that her baby was safe and warm in her stomach was a great feeling. Being pregnant was fantastic.

Derek pulled up to the house and got out. Meredith grabbed dereks hand as they opened the door. "We're here!" He announced, walking into the living room.

"Hi guys! Meredith!" Carolyn gasped as she saw her daughter in law. Meredith giggled as Carolyn came over. "Look at you." She said, placing her hand on her bump. "When did this happen?" Michael asked with a smile as he came over.

"This morning. I walked out of the shower and boom, it was there." She answered. "That's what happens. Oh, look at my grand baby . Growing Nixe and big." Carolyn said proudly.

"Sit down, sit down." Michael said as he ushered them into the room. All 4, well, technically 5 of them if the baby counts, sat down on the couch. "So, your, what, 14 weeks now?" Carolyn asked.

"Yes." Meredith replied. "Do you know the gender or are you waiting?" Carolyn questioned. "We found out last week." Derek said with a smile. "And?" Michael urged.

"We're having a baby boy." Derek announced proudly. "Oh, a grandson!" Carolyn exclaimed happily. "You broke the Shepherd girl curse. Congratulations, son." Michael said with a grin, hugging the both of them.

"Boys take a lot out of you, dear. Sleep while you can and sit down when you can before your back gives out." Carolyn said seriously. "Derek, you kicked a lot when mom was pregnant with you. I bet this little man will too." Michael replied.

"First boy in 5 years. Impressive." Carolyn said. "Our genes are superior." Derek said as he kissed Meredith softly. "Hell yeah."

"I'm gonna go grab something, I'll be back." Carolyn said suddenly as she stood up. Derek and Meredith looked to michael, who shrugged. "I have no idea." He said with a smile.

Carolyn returned a minute later with a small, blue blanket. "I made two, a pink one for a girl, or a blue one for a boy." She said, handing Meredith the tiny blanket.

"Oh, mom. It's adorable. Look, Der." Meredith cooed , showing him it. Carolyn hand made it herself, and also me embroidered 'baby boy Shepherd' on it.

"That's a awesome, min. Thank you." He said gratefully. Meredith for some reason found herself tearing up at the gesture. "What's wrong? You don't like it?" Carolyn asked in concern.

"No, I love it. I don't even know why I'm crying." Meredith said, sniffling. Carolyn smiled sympathetically. "Those would be the hormones, my dear." She said, sitting next to her and wrapping an arm around her.

"Boys, why don't you let Meredith and I talk?" Carolyn suggested. Derek got up with michael and went into the other room. "The hormones are just going to get worse dear, I'm afraid." Carolyn said.

"I hate crying." Meredith sniffled as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "I know you do. Can I tell you a secret?" Carolyn asked. "Yeah." Meredith said.

"One time, when I was pregnant with Derek actually, michael was working and I really, really wanted Thai food for some reason. But I didn't want to go outside. So, michael paid one of his interns to go run and get me food and deliver it to me." Carolyn said with a smile.

"Really? Because I made Derek get me jelly beans the other day at 3 in the morning." Meredith admitted. Carolyn laughed and put a reassuring hand on her arm. "Yes. Hormones are natural. And as husbands, who are part of the reason we act like this, it's their job to get food and take care of us." Carolyn said.

"Okay." Meredith said with a smile. "Now, about that grandson of mine." She smiled.

Hours later, they went back homr and spent the rest of the day looking for things for the nursery that would be renovated soon.

"I love you. And I love you too." Derek said as he held his wife in bed. "We love you too."
