It's been a long time

Chapter 6

Meredith 17, Derek 18 - (kind of a filler)

(Start of dereks senior year and Merediths junior year)
"What schools did you apply to Der?" Meredith asked as she sat on the couch, curled up to him. "Bowdoin, Dartmouth, and a bunch of others. Those two are my first choices." Derek explained. Meredith nodded and yawned. "How's your mom doing Meredith?" Carolyn asked from the kitchen. Meredith sighed. "I had to put her in a home last night. She doesn't recognize me anymore and I can't be there to watch her 24/7." Meredith said sadly. Derek pulled her closer. "I'm sorry dear." Carolyn replied. Meredith nodded.

"Can Meredith stay over tonight?" Derek as when Meredith went to the bathroom. "Sure." Carolyn replied. Derek smirked, thinking about the fun they would have tonight. "I know what your planning to do young man. Don't think I don't know what you two do." Carolyn scolded. She sighed, turning her gaze to Derek. "Just keep it down please." She said. Derek nodded.

"Hey guys!" Christopher said as he came into the house. "Hi dear." Carolyn said as she embraced her husband in a hug. "How was your day?" She asked. "Good. Saved a few patients. All in a days work." Chris replied cockily.

"I'm back." Meredith said as she came into the kitchen. "Hi Chris." She said. "Hi Mer. How are you?" He asked. "Good. How bout you?" Chris asked. "I'm good." He replied, giving her a side hug. Chris and Meredith got pretty close throughout the time Meredith spent at the Shepherd household.

Meredith yawned again. "Mer, you can stay here tonight if you wsnt to." Derek offered with a smile. Meredith nodded, yawning once more. "Let's go to bed." He said. He walked over to her and put his arm around her waist, pulling her close to his body. "Goodnight guys." Meredith said to his parents. "Goodnight." The parents replied in unison.

Derek led Meredith up to his bedroom and they changed into their pajamas, which for Meredith consisted of dereks flannel pajama pants that were way too big, and dereks tshirt, which was also way too big. Derek was just wearing the same thing. They got into bed and Derek kissed her passionately. Meredith kissed back, but pulled away to yawn. "Mer, why are you so tired?" Derek asked softly. "I was up late moving my mothers stuff into the home. I didn't get much sleep." Meredith replied with yet another yawn. Derek gave her a sad smile. "Sleep. I'll be here." He said. He turned out the lights as Meredith snuggled up, her head resting on his chest. Derek wrapped a protective arm around her waist and held her close.

"You think they did it?" Amelia asked, who was now 21. Her parents flushed with embarrassment. "Probably." Lizzie, who was 24 now replied. "Let's go bust them." Amelia said. She threw open the door and yelled. "Gotcha!" "Oh." Amelia as she saw the two cuddling, contently sleeping.

Carolyn and Christopher smiled at the sight. "Let's go." They said to their daughters. "Wait." Lizzie said. She pulled out her phone and snapped a quick picture. She faced her parents who had a confused expression on. "Leverage." She said simply. The parents smiled. They backed out of the room and shut the door.

"I can't wait for Meredith to be a Shepherd." Carolyn said to her husband as they entered the kitchen. "Neither can I." Christopher replied. "They're like us when we were young." She pointed out. "They are." Chris agreed with a smile.

"Morning sleepyhead." Derek said as Meredith stirred against his chest. "Mm morning." Meredith said as she burrowed herself head into the crook of his neck. She rolled on top of Derek and kissed his chest once, then turning her head and listening to his heart beat. Derek wrapped his arms around his waist and held her close. "I love you." She said, muffled into his chest. "I love you too." He replied into her hair.

"Meredith? Derek?" A voice from behind the door asked. Meredith quickly rolled off of Derek. "Come in." Derek said softly. Carolyn opened the door and smiled at the two. "I made some breakfast downstairs. There's eggs, bacon, and coffee if you wsnt any." Carolyn said. Meredith nodded eagerly and got out of bed, pulling Derek behind her.

The pair made there way to the kitchen and were greeted by all of Dereks sisters and his father. "Morning Derek. Morning Mer." Christopher greeted. "Morning." Meredith said as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "So Meredith, have you started looking in to any colleges yet? Med school maybe?" Chris asked. "I'm looking at Dartmouth right now. It seems like a really good campus, and yes, if I go there I will probably go there for Med school as well." Meredith explained. "That's good. I'm proud of you Mer." Chris said. "Thank you." Meredith said with a smile.

Derek pulled Meredith close to him as the family enjoyed coffee and chatted about the days events. It was at this moment, Meredith realized this was exactly where she was supposed to be.

Sorry guys, this is really short! But next chapter will be about how Meredith is in her senior year of high school and how Derek is in his freshman year of college.
