Hope's POV

Me and the boys head to the library to research ways on how to kill the Qareen, while Lizzie checks on Josie to ask her for help. The boys are by the table while I'm by the shelf a book in hand. After a while of researching Wade speaks up.
"Okay. The Qareen does have an Achilles' heel. Uh, it's weak to myrrh, Sinbad's scimitar, and fairies."
"Don't even think about it." I state.
"Why don't you believe me?"
"Can you fly or shoot fairy dust or make others gleeful? No. Because you're doing
the exact same thing that Landon is
with his training with Jed: You're trying to fit in. It's delusional." I dismiss. That was mean "I sh-shouldn't have said that" This is making matters worse between me and Landon. Things between us are civil at best. The monster problem is both our priority as of now.

"You do know the reason I'm training is to help you and the others with this stuff?" Landon says.
"If I need someone to die a lot, or be picked on, I know who to call." Wade stands up and leaves. "Wade, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean that... I didn't mean that." I apologize. Stupid monster.
"Actually, you did. The Qareen magnifies insecurities. It doesn't make them." Landon clarifies and I sigh defeated. Just then Maya walks into the library.
"Uhh, Hope. There's a monster on campus." Maya informs us scared.
"Great. It's strong enough to be on our plane." Landon states the obvious.
"Thank you, Maya we'll handle this, why don't you stay with the pack, you just moved in I don't want you to deal with the monster." she nods and turns to leave.

"Maya, I'm sorry about earlier I was infected by a monster." I apologize.
"It's okay I know you didn't mean it." She smiles warmly at me and leaves. I then turn my attention back on Landon.
"Okay, now, we need to get you somewhere safe just in case. So you don't go get yourself kidnapped again." Landon looks at me unamused probably waiting for an apology. "I'm really not blaming the victim here." I say.
"I actually don't think it's after me. Like, it actively avoided Wade and me." Landon states. "Then what does it want?" I ask.
"That's what we need to find out." Landon and I leave and head to Dr. Saltzman's office to get the twins.

Josie's POV

"Josie, wake up. Jo! Are you okay?" Lizzie says as she shakes me awake. She slowly helps me sit up. Just then Hope walks into the room along with Landon. Hope notices me and her face immediately turns to worry and rushes to my side, kneeling in front of me, cupping my face. I instantly feel better. "What happened? Jo are you okay?" I try to think of why I was passed out on the floor. "Monster" I say.
"Uh, Emma put up a barrier spell, so the Qareen's stuck in her with us." Landon says. Then I also remember something else. "It took the Sandclock."
"The Sandclock? Why?" Hope asks.
"It doesn't matter. We just need to get it back. We can take this thing out, okay? We are three badass witches and one moderately competent bird."

Hope helps me stand to my feet and wraps her arm around me for support.
"Except if the Sandclock gets damaged, something really bad is gonna happen."
"We need to exploit a weakness to take it down fast." Lizzie says, determined.
"Except Landon's research into that was about as useful as his fighting skills."
"Or maybe my research was fine, but God forbid you use your brain instead of punching every problem." Landon says.
"Great they're snapping at each other." I mumble under my breath.
"Oh, my God, sorry." Hope apologizes.
"Oh, crap. I'm infected." Landon states.
"Join the club. Maybe the only one that'll have you. Sorry. Monster." Lizzie says.
"Why am I being affected now? I wasn't before. Oh. Okay. I might have a plan." Landon announces.

***

Hope and Lizzie tell me everything about our situation while Landon goes find Wade. This plan is not very good, but we're desperate, this is the only idea we have. We gather everyone in the Grand Hall and we chant Wade's name.
"We gathered everyone we could." I say.
"Let lose the fairy." Hope adds.
"You got this, Wade. Just know that everyone believes in you." Landon states. A student screams behind us and we see the monster holding the Sandclock. Everyone continues cheering and Wade closes his eyes to focus but nothing happens. He sighs. "Wh-Wha-What's wrong?" Hope asks.
"This isn't giving me any powers. I don't think anyone really believes in me."
"This is why we don't entrust plans to Muppet Babies. I'm not sorry." Lizzie says.
