Josie's POV

The next morning I woke up, I get ready since it's spring break. Lizzie already got ready, probably too excited for our break. Me, dad and Lizzie are gonna be bonding for the break. It's weird that me and Lizzie just came back from Europe and now it's already spring. We only went home early to join the talent show. And now that it's done, we get to spend some family time. Ater my shower dad walks into the room.
"Hey girls, I'm sorry but we can't make our trip we have to go to Mapple Hollows to get the urn back." dad states. "What?! Why?" Lizzie whines.
"I got slugged last night and threw the urn in the river, we have to get to it before a monster does." dad explains.

"You guys can come if you or you can stay behind, I already have Kaleb, Dorian, and Emma with me." dad says.
"It's okay dad, we'll come." I say. He smiles at me and turns to Lizzie.
"Fine. I'll come too" Lizzie replies.
"Okay. Great. We'll leave in 10. I'll wait in the car." dad says. "We haven't eaten yet"
"Don't worry I already packed food for us. We can eat on the road. We don't want to get back too late." dad replies as he leaves. Me and Lizzie pack our bags and head to the car. We're taking the van instead of dad's truck so everyone can fit. When we get there I can see Dorian and Emma already inside at the very back of the car, and Kaleb in the passenger seat. Leaving us the seats in the middle. Lizzie immediately walks inside the car, while I settle my bags first, just then I hear Hope's voice behind me.

I turn around and see her running towards us.
"Hey wait for me" she calls out. It's just when she reached the van that she registers me. Her expression immediately turns to shock.
"Oh. Hey, Josie, didn't know you were coming." she states.
"Didn't know you were coming too." I did not expect to be here. I should've known she would come. God, I just Hope this car ride won't be awkward. We fell into an awkward silence just standing there avoiding eye contact, before dad breaks it.
"Come on girls. Let's get moving" dad says. Me and Hope then walk in the car, Hope going in first so she's in the middle of me and Lizzie. Then dad hits the road.

Hope's POV

I honestly did not expect that Josie was coming along the trip. After our talk last night, we said we were good but I doubt that. This trip is going to be awkward or uncomfortable for the least. We hit the road and we all fell silent. It's probably a comfortable silence for everybody else but for me and Josie it's awkward especially since I'm sitting next to her.
"Dr. Saltzman, this van is very... white of you." Kaleb comments breaking the silence. "It's retro." Dr. Saltzman replies.
"It's a gas-guzzling atrocity on wheels." Lizzie states. We again fall silent, and I
decided to see if anyone was hungry. Since we didn't get to eat breakfast so
"I brought snacks." I state.
"Oh, sweet. Did you pack them before or after you decided to FOMO your way onto our trip?" Lizzie sarcastically asks.

"Like I'm gonna let you guys chase monsters without me?" I reply
"I would've thought you wanted to spend the break canoodling with your hipster boyfriend." Lizzie teases.
"Landon's not my boyfriend" I reply defensively.
"And sorry for wanting to protect the
outside world from my mistakes. You know, there's currently an urn on a river cruise spreading plagues across America because I thought a unicorn was cute. It's called accountability.
Maybe there's a bracelet for it." I tease.
"Ooh!" Kaleb says from the front.
"Or maybe you just wanted to ruin
yet another Saltzman spring break." she replies. What does that mean?

"When have I ever ruined a spring break?" I ask confused about what she's accusing me.
"Girls? We're gonna be in this classic
automobile for six hours, all right?
So, no bickering." Dr. Saltzman warns.
"It would help if it wasn't a thousand degrees in here. I'm burning up." I say.
"You're burning up. Now, that's ironic." Lizzie scoffs.
"What does that even mean?" I ask.
"Don't play dumb. I see you. I see right through you." she replies
"I don't know what you're talking about.
What happened to playing nice?" I ask.
"Over. Done. I'm getting back to me. I am who I am." she states. "Right, Josie?"
"Josie?" Lizzie calls. But Josie is listening to music. "Sorry?" she asks as she removes her earbuds.
