Maya's POV

Last night was unexpected. I stormed out of the room and left Hope all alone. I didn't come back to our room last night, instead I went home, my mom was confused but she didn't question my unexpected visit. The reason I went home last night was to check on Ethan. He was asleep when I went to his room or at least he pretended like he was. He's been like that ever since he broke his arm. This is my fault. I shouldn't have let him play at the game, if I did maybe none of this would've happened. I cannot believe Hope hid the truth from me. I thought we told each other everything. She's been keeping what happened to my brother all this time. She knows what happened to Ethan when he broke his arm.

He has been so down ever since that game. He lost his scholarship, he lost his spot as quarterback. He locks himself in his room and doesn't come out. I don't know how to help him. Ethan saw me go inside his room, he gave me a hug but then he kicked me out of the room. I didn't try to push him after that. I also talked to my mom last night and she gave me some advice after I told her about my fight with Hope, leaving out the supernatural half of it, since she's still in the dark about me being a wolf. I'm not sure if I'm gonna do what my mom said about forgiving Josie. Or at least not yet. I understand why Hope hid the truth from me, she was protecting Josie. I would do the same for Ethan. But forgiving Josie is another thing. It's going to take a lot of time before I get there.

I'm headed back to school, spending the night back at my house helped me clear my head. The walk back to school was quiet and peaceful, until I heard two people grunting, like they were wrestling at woods near the school gates. I rushed over there and saw Landon with a guy wearing white robes, with wings?! I guess Hope really wasn't lying when she said there were monsters coming to the school. The winged man drew back his bow ready to hit Landon. I acted fast and grabbed a log and hit his head hard.
"Oh thank god. Thanks for your help. Maya, right?" Landon asks, out of breath. I nod my eyes on the other man. "I'm La-" I interrupt him before he could finish.
"Landon, the Phoenix, yes I know... So what do we do with this guy?" I ask.
"We should bring this guy back to Hope before he wakes up." Landon suggests.

And that's what we do. Me and Landon drag him to the school gym, I went to find a witch to spell the monster inside. After the witch, Jessica, placed a boundary spell around the Cupid looking guy, Landon told me to go get Hope. I didn't want to since, I'm still a little mad at her and he obviously didn't want to, probably because of their awkward tension, so we ended up fighting about it, but it all came down to rock paper scissors, which I lost. I groan and Landon smiles smugly. I asked around for Hope and no one knows where she is so I used my sense of smell and found her in the werewolf transitional cellar, with her roommate Alyssa Chang looked uo, doing yoga. Huh. Strange. They both still haven't noticed me and they continue talking.

"Enough with the games, Alyssa. Help me bring the Saltzmans back." Why is Alyssa looked up. Most importantly what happened to the Saltzmans?
"Why, so you can be the hero and save the day? This isn't about you, Hope. Though, if I knew how annoying you'd be, I would have sent you away, too." Alyssa says nonchalantly, continuing her yoga.
"How's this? You tell me where the real ascendant is, and I won't pluck your eyelash extensions out one by one."
"Sorry, but I don't negotiate with basic witches. So, I'm never telling you where the ascendant is. Namaste." Hope slowly walks forward, towards the cell door, like a predator, looking like she's about to make good on her threat. So I stop her. "Hope! What are you doing?!"

Hope halts in her tracks and turn to face me. "Maya, what are you doing here?"
"Something happened with Landon earlier and we need your help." I explain.
"Can it wait? I'm in the middle of something here. I need to to get Josie back. Get them back." she says, franticly.
"Woah- woah, slow down. What happened to them? And by them I mean Dr. Saltzman and Lizzie" I say. Hope glares at me and I just shrug. I want them to be safe, all of them, but that doesn't mean I have to care about Josie too. She deserves this punishment.
"This bitch Alyssa banished them to a prison world." I look over to Alyssa and see her smiling smugly, loving her title. "And she's the one who knows where the ascendant is, which is the key to opening up said prison world."Hope explains.
