Hope's POV

The rehearsals are now starting and Landon is already there when I walk in the room. We start to practice the dance, we had some trouble at first but we eventually got the hang of it.
"I can't believe you were so nice to him. After everything you told me he did to you and to your family, you can act like nothing happened?" he asks.
"It's complicated. He spent half of his life desiccated in a cave. And then he was brainwashed by his mother, who was a literal Nazi. And he's spent the last two years doing really good work for the school." I explain as calm as I can.

"Your mother is still dead. How does any of that exonerate him?" he asks.
"It doesn't. But it's in the past. Leave it." Why is he even bringing this up? Why can't he just leave this? He has no right to talk about my mother and forces me into hating Roman.
"I suffered through how much torture because I stole a knife, and this guy has a hand in the death of your..."
"Landon, stop." I warn as push him away. Lizzie then walks behind me and places a hand on my shoulder.
"Come with me. You, stay here. Do nothing." she states and we leave.

We walk away from Landon and make our way out of the grand hall, when we're about to exit I get sight of Josie's worried eyes. She's dancing with Penelope. Where the hell is Mg? But that doesn't matter now. Josie gives me a concerned look asking if I'm okay. I give her a tight lipped smile and mouth 'I'm okay.' She still looks worried but she nods her head and continues to practice the dance with Penelope. Why is she dancing with her? Lizzie then hands me my coat and we walk out of the grand hall and into the woods.

"Lizzie, where are we going?" I ask.
"You are a ticking time bomb. I'm gonna show you how to take care of it before you hurt someone, or worse, cost us the pageant." she responds.
"I'm fine. Okay? I just needed some air..." I lie. I'm definitely not fine. I just need to wolf out and release some pressure.
"You are far from fine. You are one small moment away from a meltdown, trust me. I know the signs."
"You know that feeling inside, like a balloon constantly filling up, always on the verge of popping?" she ask. "Maybe."
"Well, let it pop. Scream as loud as you can." she suggests.

I do what she says. I scream and let out a wave of energy. After I screamed everything feels much better the pressure is no longer there. Me and Lizzie then make our way back to school
"You know? I actually feel a lot better. But I think I need to go back up to my room. I need to call it a day." I say.
"No, you are not dropping out on me. If I'm right, which I am, our win probability is still at 87%. Even after that abysmal rehearsal. So buckle up, we're in this till the bitter end." Lizzie replies. Great. Just great. When we turn the corner we get sight of Landon.

"In a situation like this, which one of us is supposed to apologize?" I ask.
"Him. Duh?" she replies. I walk up Landon and leave a good amount of distance between us. "Hey."
"Hey. I'm so sorry, I was totally insensitive, and I just, I..." he starts but then stops. "Where did this statue come from? " he asks.
"Uh, I-I don't know, somebody probably moved it up here when they were cleaning? Looks like one of the statues from the basement." I answer.
"Call me crazy, but doesn't this look like MG's mom?" he asks. I take a look at the statue. "I think it is MG's mom."

I then told Landon to go find Mg and Dr. Saltzman while me and Lizzie wait. When they finally arrive they first examine the statue. Mg is taking this surprisingly well.
"Who would do this to my mom?"
"Well, not just who would... Who could?" I ask. Dr. Saltzman takes another look at the statue trying to come up with a solution to our questions.
"It could be a bad spell translation, a potion mishap?" she suggests.
"Or a monster." I offer.
"There's no reason a monster would be here." Dr. Saltzman replies.

"Unless this sentient jar of artisanal mayonnaise activated a new artifact. What did you touch?" Lizzie asks Landon
"Everything. We cleaned the school from top to bottom, remember?"
"But if we're just gonna throw out wild theories, here's one: what if the person who did this showed up today, out of nowhere, acting all buddy-buddy, manipulating romantic feelings to get someone's guard down?" Landon offers.
"Do you seriously suspect Roman?" I ask. He us unbelievable.
"Yeah, we all should. The timing is too convenient." he replies.
