Chapter 20

Later that evening, after you checked on the dogs, you start to feel a bit anxious.
Which caused a chain reaction on the dogs.
Hope is the first to pick up on it, Rhys and Kit follow her and the three of them start pressing against your leg in comfort. Hope goes as far as to jump up and putting her front paws on your shoulders. Her head against your forehead. Cas had moved to sit behind you, covering your back from people.

"Sweeties, I'm okay. It's okay."
You pet all four of them, having to turn a bit to reach Cas.
Yet the dogs don't move at all. You resign to your fate and try to relax as you absentmindedly pet the dogs.

At some point Cas starts growling warningly, but soft, you turn and see nothing.
Mere moments later loud voices reach you.

"What so you just think to drop him here as if it's nothing while you return to Asgard and fix things up there? Yeah no! We don't need a repeat of New York" Tony's voice
"Man of Iron, you must know that he was under mind control!"
The arguing continues but you tune it out as a man walks towards the living area where you sit. He clearly hasn't seen you yet. It's Loki. You know him from the news when he ravaged New York. After the truth came out, a lot of people still viewed him as a villain.

"Careful, the dogs don't know you yet." You say as he comes closer.
He stops and looks at you. He looks closed off, ready for an onslaught of accusations.
"Please sit down on the sofa, I'll introduce them to you." You put a smile on your face and gestures for the sofa.

Loki looks unsure, guarded, as he sits down.
Cas focuses on the God of Mischief. Unsure about the energy he gives off.

"This is Hope, she's my service dog in case I turn blind. These two dorks are Rhys and Kit. We adopted them today. And lastly we have Cas. We also adopted him just today, but he has traumas to overcome. He might need time."
Loki nods before asking, "and who might you be?"
"I'm Y/N, I joined the team not that long ago."
Loki nods. He seems hesitant to say something.
"I know who you are. And don't worry, I have no intention to hurt you. I know you were under mind control. I'm glad you found a way out of that control. It must have been horrible."

Loki seems to tense before relaxing a little.
"What's Thor trying to accomplish with Tony? Because they are being loud."
"My brother wants me to reside here. At least until he made sure Asgard doesn't want to kill me on the spot."
"And Tony doesn't seem all to happy to allow that?"
"I threw him out of the window back then."
"No, you didn't. The mind control made you do that. It used you to accomplish its goal."

"That for sure is a good way to look at it, doll." Bucky comes into view with Steve.
Loki tenses immediately. The anxiety and fear is clear for everyone to see.
Cas moves from behind you and jumps up the sofa to lay halfway over Loki's lap.

"What..."
"Seems to be sensitive to the atmosphere in the room. He means well. I think you can pet him. It is oddly calming." You reassure him with a smile.
Your two super soldiers sit down on the couch behind you.
"Why are you on the floor?"
"I felt anxious and I just sat down. These cuties came immediately."
You lean against Bucky's leg.

"So, you need help to convince Tony?" Bucky looks up at Loki before dropping his gaze to you.
"Yes. Loki could have my room. I just need to clear it out some more."
"I will need time to get used to him here, especially if he sleeps across from us." Steve mutters.
"Sweetie, no one expects anyone to immediately drop what happened. As long as the atmosphere doesn't turn too hostile, it should be fine. Loki deserves this. He's not bad. He's no villain."
"I know. If you trust him, I can try to let the grudges go." Steve smiles at you before giving Loki a nod.

The God of Mischief still looks anxious. His eyes flitting to Bucky, uncertainty in his eyes.
You look up at Bucky and communicate with your eyes to tell Loki what his perspective is.
"Oh, you want me to..." Bucky still looks at you. You nod.
"He doesn't have to worry about me. I know what it is to be used as a tool. He might have been mind controlled, while I was brainwashed but the essence is the same. We did things we didn't want to and we couldn't stop it."
You smile at him before pressing a soft kiss on his hand.

"I have not learned of your story as of yet. Thor only kept me in the loop with names, not with stories." It was an open way to ask for the story without pushing.
"HYDRA used me to brainwash me into a killer mindset. I was an obedient soldier that didn't question why I needed to kill."

Loki looks at Bucky for a short while before nodding.

"Where did he go? See he isn't one to trust! How can you expect me to let him live here?" Tony is too fast to jump to conclusions.
"He's here with us." Steve calls.

Tony and Thor come into view.
Thor looks in awe at his brother with Cas on his lap.

Tony seems to immediately deflate at the sight.
"I guess he can stay. If Cas trusts him."
"He can have my old room. I'll just have to clear some things out."
"So you can guide Loki. I'll be in my workshop. Jarvis, please inform everyone about our new resident."

Tony leaves as quick as he appeared.
"I must go back to Asgard. May I trust you to help my brother settle in?"
"Don't worry Thor, he's in good hands. I'll be here to defend him if necessary."
Thor nods before he too disappears.

"Well lets get you settled," you turn to Steve and Bucky, "and you two can help me carry my stuff to our room."
They roll their eyes before nodding.

Cas looks up and sees the intend to move. He jumps off the sofa. Loki gets up as you too stand up.
"He might follow you." You warn as Cas sits down against Loki's leg.
The four of you leave to the elevator, followed by Cas. Hope, Kit and Rhys seem to want to lay down again.
