Movement wakes you up.
"Good morning." Steve whispers.
"Morning." Your voice still overflown with sleep.
"How's Buck?"
"I'm okay. How are you?"
"Sleepy." You grin when you sit up, knowing you can't catch sleep anymore once you're awake.
"Breakfast?" Steve asks. You hear him getting up. You nod and stand up from the bed. A bit disoriented because you usually sleep on the side Steve slept on.
"Good morning Ms. Y/N. Where would you like to go?"
Surprised you look at the ceiling even though you know you can't see a thing.
"Good morning JARVIS, the kitchen please." You decide to try it out.
You follow the instructions JARVIS gives you and you end up in the kitchen. Thanking JARVIS, you sit down.
"Cereal?" Steve asks. You nod, hearing someone sit down next to you. You know it is Bucky
You are so attuned to how they walk, how they sound. You just knows who it is.
"Guess Tony felt guilty." Bucky remarks.
"Pretty sure about it." You grumble when Steve hands you a mug of tea before hearing him place your bowl in front of you.
They know how difficult the first day is.
The three of you eat your breakfasts with a calm atmosphere surrounding you.
"Plans for today?" Bucky asks.
"Erm... not really. If you're up to it, Bucky, we could try and unravel more tonight?"
A hum, you take it as a yes.
"We're going to buy some groceries. Have some normalcy. You want to come?"
"Steve, I don't..." "We asked, you are not a burden. You never are Doll." Steve is taking over Bucky's nickname for you.
It's weird how it warms your heart. It confuses you.
"Sure."
And that is how you end up in some random grocery store, holding Bucky's arm while Steve is filling the basket Bucky is holding. "I crave chocolate," you say at some point. "Preference?" Steve asks. "Milk chocolate with hazelnuts. Those are just the best." You say. "Big pack?" Bucky asks with a smile in his voice. "Oh yes please," you moan, can't wait to leave the store to have a bite of the chocolate.
"As you wish Doll." A smile can be heard in his voice.
At some point Steve says they'll go to the self-scan line since there are less people. Less than 10 minutes later you are walking outside, eating a bit of the delicious chocolate.
"Thank you for this." You smile and take the last bite of the piece you broke off.
"Of course."
The walk is calming your anger down, but also the anxious feeling the first day of blindness brings.
"Want a coffee? We're close to an amazing shop that sells delicious coffee."
"Sure." You say.
Walking inside the scent of coffee sweeps you away. "It smells amazing in here."
"I know right." An unknown voice says.
"Steve, Bucky. Welcome! Is this...?" "Yes, this is Y/N."
"Oh nice to meet you Y/N, you look even more amazing than these two described you. I'm Leah, I work here."
"Nice to meet you, Leah." You feel a bit insecure by the unprepared for attention.
"Oh, I'm sorry, how rude of me." She suddenly says.
You have no clue why.
"What kind of coffee are you looking for? I know about Steve and Bucky's coffee. You want sweet, bitter, something special?"
"Special?"
"Okay, we have the sweet coffees. We have Oreos, Maltesers or M&M's in a latte macchiato. Then we have your normal coffee added with a syrup. We have, one second let me look." A pause. "Rose, caramel, chocolate and mint."
"I would like the Maltesers one please."
"Coming right up."
You wait as the scent of the coffee invades your senses and make you wait a bit impatiently curious for your coffee.
"There you go." The girl, Leah, says. You feel the cup against your hand. Gently you take it. "Thank you," the feeling behind your voice is more than just a thanks, it is gratefulness that she gave you the cup instead of letting you figure out where it is. Not that your boys would allow that.
You're face turns as white as a sheet.
Your boys, they're not your boys. Why did that idea pop up in your head? You're confused by it.
To distract yourself you take a sip, allowing the taste to invade your taste buds.
"This is amazing Leah, thank you!"
"Of course! Now go and enjoy your day with your two soldiers." You tense, but you also feel Bucky tense.
"Yeah sure, we'll do that." You quickly say, avoiding the awkward.
Bucky leads you out, you hear Steve walking on your other side. Tension in the air between you.
"I feel like having ice cream and listening to some good music." You say, trying to lighten the mood. "We just came from the store." Bucky says. "There should be some ice cream left in the freezer, otherwise I'll beg Wanda to get it for me." A grin, you're unsure if it was Steve or Bucky. "Little step." Bucky says before stopping right in front of the step so you can take it slowly, carefully.
"How about we talk first?" Steve says.
You tense again, jaw clenching shut. "Could we not do this now? I don't want to possibly lose the friendship we have. I need the two of you." You quickly shut your mouth.
Silence. "I can't loose the two of you as my friends, you help me out a lot and the dynamic we have. I don't know what to do without it." You sounds desperate, hurt.
"We'll talk tomorrow. We really have to talk about it."
You feel that you walk in an elevator, the room feels different.
"I wish I could read, I feel useless like this. I need some way to calm down and music only does so much." You mumble, but of course the two super soldiers heard it with their advanced hearing.
"I could read to you?" Steve suggests. "Still need ice cream." You say with a sigh. The three of you enter the tower, Bucky leading you to the kitchen table. "Sit down while we unpack. Finish your coffee too."
You do as Bucky says only because you don't feel like figuring out where to go.
"Here is your chocolate bar." Steve sounds delicate, in thoughts. "Thank you." You open the package and break a piece off.
It doesn't take the two long to finish unpacking. You take the last sip of the coffee before it's empty.
Bucky takes the empty cup, while Steve takes your arm and carefully leads you somewhere.
Hearing Steve open a door you know you walk in their room, since it's on the opposite side you would open yours.
"Lay down comfortably. What book do you want me to read?"
He sits you down on the bed before walking away.
"Something cute, you choose."
Steve seemingly chose a book because he joins you on the bed, carefully letting you scoot over to the middle part of the bed. The door opens again, and since Steve doesn't react you assume it's Bucky.
"We had ice cream, I brought it together with your chocolate. Stevie, I brought you coffee and a bottle of water."
"Thank you Buck." Steve says. You nod in thanks.
The bed dips a bit next to you. You feel Bucky laying down next to you. "Here." You feel a spoon being put in your right hand, while something cold touches your left. "The lid it already removed."
"Thank you." You say taking a full spoon of the frozen good in your mouth.
"Are you ready?" Steve interrupts, voice sounding near your ear.
"Yeah." And that is how Steve starts to read the story to you while you eat spoonful after spoonful of the ice cream you like so much.
Bucky even took your wrist and carefully moved it so the spoon ended up in his mouth instead of yours.
And so what's left of the day is filled with the amazing story Steve's soothing voice tells.
