(Derek POV)

I had a plan. A plan that I was sure Meredith would be happy with. The next morning after I stayed at home with the kids and my mom, I told them.

"You guys wanna go see mommy?" I asked as we ate breakfast. Mom looked up with a shocked expression. "We can see mommy?" Zola asked in hopefulness. "Yes. Who wants to see her?" I asked with a smile. "Me!" They all yelled at the same time.

"Okay. Go grab your masks and we can leave." I said as the kids ran off. "How are you doing this?" Mom asked with a raised eyebrow. "I found some really small PPE online and got some for them. I- the kids need their mom. And I think it would be good for Meredith to see them." I explained.

"Okay Derek. Please be safe and tell Meredith I said hi." She replied. "I will. Thanks mom." I said as the kids came running over.

I got them all into the car and drove to the hosptial. "When we get there, you have to wear a....a costume. It will protect you from the covid monsters. And you probably won't be able to touch mama, but you can see her and talk to her." I explained. "Okay daddy!" Bailey exclaimed.

We got to the hospital and I had Bailey bring out the PPE. I was surprised when she allowed me to do this. "Hi auntie Bailey." Zola and Bailey said with a smile. "Hi guys! Ready to see your mama?" Bailey asked with a smile. "Yeah!" They squealed.

Bailey helped Derek put the PPE on all 3 kids and himself and they went inside, Zola and Bailey holding hands with Bailey, and Derek holding Ellis.

(Meredith POV)

I woke up and felt lonely. I've been lonely before, but this was nothing compared to then. I desperately wanted to see Derek and the kids, but I can't.

"Hey." Amelia said as she came into my room. "Hi." I replied. "How you feeling?" She asked as she thumbed through my chart. "Not bad...I guess." I replied honestly. "But you want to see Derek and the kids." Amelia cut in. I smiled and nodded. "Yeah." I replied honeslty. "Well, your in luck." She said with a smile as she moved over to the end of my bed.

Confused, I looked to the door and I was shocked when I saw my three kids and Derek. "What?" I asked in surprise. "Mama!" The kids yelled happily as they ran over to me.

"Don't touch." Derek warned them. "Hi guys." I said. "Hi mama!!" They all yelled. "This..isnt safe Derek." I said quietly to Derek. "It is. They all have certified PPE and when I get home I'll give them all baths." He replied. "Mama, when you home?" Ellis asked. "I don't know Ellie Bell. Hopefully soon." I replied honestly.

"We miss you mama." Bailey said. "A lot." Zola added. "I miss you guys too. How's grandma?" I asked. "She's good and she makes the bestest cookies." Bailey said eagerly. "And she makes really good food." Zola said. "Really?" I asked. They nodded.

(Derek POV)

I could tell mereditj was ecstatic about seeing the kids. She was also nervous, that was easy to see. Probably nervous about whether the kids were safe or not. But if they weren't I would never bring them.

I looked over at Bailey and saw tears in her eyes. She must miss her kids more than anything too. Meredith and the kids chatted for a while before Meredith starting wheezing after talking so much. "We have to go guys." I said softly. "No!" Ellis cried. "I know. Say bye to mama." I said softly. "Bye." They all said sadly. "Love you." They all said. "I love you guys too." Meredith replied as Bailey put the oxygen mask on and turned it up.

I changed the kids out of the PPE brought them home. We arrived and I immediately bathed the kids. Zola and Bailey showered by themselves in their own rooms while I gave Ellie a bath. That's when I noticed Ellis lip quivering. "What's wrong Ellie?" I asked softly as I poured water over her hair.

"I miss mama." She said before bursting into tears. I finished washing her hair before wrapped her in a towel and picking her out of the tub and into my arms. "I know baby." I murmured as i held her close. Listen to my daughters cries for her mother hurt me.

After everyone was all clean and changed, we all went back out to the living room where my mother was sitting. "Grandma, guess what?" Bailey asked happily as he bounded on the couch. "What?" Carolyn asked. "We got to see mama." He said. "You did? How was it?" She asked. "It was good. Mama didn't look good though." Zola observed. "Mamas getting better." I said as I held Ellis. She has been getting clingy lately after Meredith was hospitalized.

"She's okay?" Mom asked to me quietly as the kids played. "She's good." I confirmed. "Good." She said softly as she rubbed Ellie's back.

"Everything will be okay. Just give it time." Mom said. "I know." I replied.
