(It's been A week)

(Amelia POV)

As I was changing Scouts diaper, my phone started ringing. "Hello?" I said. "Amy." Derek said, her voice shaky. "Derek? What's wrong?" I asked. "Meredith needs a heart transplant." He choked out as he suppressed a sob. "She what?" I asked in disbelief. "She needs a heart transplant. The virus got to her heart. It's failing." Derek said. "Oh god." I whispered. "Amy, I gotta go. It's the transplant coordinators. I'll call you back." Derek said frantically as he ended the call. I picked up the baby and walked into the kitchen, still in shock.

Mom and Link were talking, and they looked at me with a concerned gaze when they saw my expression. "What's wrong?" Link asked immediately as he picked up the baby from my arms. "Mer..." I trailed off. "What happened to Meredith?" Mom asked, clearly concerned. "Heart transplant." I choked out. "She needs a heart transplant?" Link asked, obviously in surprise. I nodded. "It got to her heart...it's failing." I said as tears streamed down my face. Link took me into his arms with the baby and held me close. I looked at my mom who looked in shock as well and took one Arm off of links waist and wrapped it around my mom. "Oh god." I said before sobs wracked my body.

(Derek POV)

I quickly picked up the phone and ended amelias call when the transplant coordinator called. I put it on speaker so everyone could hear it. "Dr. Shepherd. We have a heart available in Oregon. They just got a car accident victim, he's an organ donor, and your patients match his labs. There's no brain activity. Do you want the heart?" He asked. "Yes!" We all examined quickly. "Okay. The heart will be there in an hour by medavac. Make sure your patient is ready, the heart won't be viable for too long," he said as he hung up the phone. "We got a heart!" Teddy yelled. "We got a heart!" I repeated happily. "Okay. She's on pre op biotics, someone make sure an OR is prepped and ready." Bailey said. Everyone ran to get ready, and I just stayed vigil in Merediths room, knowing I couldn't do anything else.

An hour and 15 minutes later, the heart arrived. Teddy and Richard grabbed it while Bailey, deluca, and some nurses wheeled Meredith into the OR. The anesthesiologist changed her intubation and gave her drugs, and Teddy took a deep breath before cutting open into her chest. They kicked me out of the OR, so I have to wait by a nurses station and stress myself out.

(Teddy POV)

I never would've pictured myself doing a transplant on Meredith Grey, but yet here I am. "Okay. Heart is out." I said as I put her old heart into a basin. "New heart." I asked. Cristina helped me place the new heart in carefully. We connected the heart to her valves and I took the paddles. "Charge to 120. Clear." I said. The paddles jolted her heart, but nothing so far. "Charge to 250. Clear." I said. Her heart jolted, and finally, her heart started. "We got her back!" Bailey exclaimed. I smiled through my mask and nodded.

We got Meredith back into an icu room, where only staff members could go. I said no Derek originally, but I changed my mind. He would never allow that, and he only saw the kids and his family. I walked up to Derek at the nurses station and smiled. "She's stable for now. Everything went well. She's in the ICU." I explained. Derek smiled and hugged me tightly. "Thank you so much." He whispered. "Anytime Derek. Now go be with her." I said with a smile. He nodded and ran off to her room.

(Derek POV)

I got to Merediths room and smiled when I saw her sats looked a lot better than before. "She did good." Bailey said, referring to Meredith and how she did during the surgery. "She did." I sighed in relief. I sat down on the couch in her room and took out my phone.

I told the kids I would FaceTime them at the hospital, and I have time now so why not. I pressed Amelias number and she answered immediately. "Hey! How is she?" Amelia asked. "She's good. She got the heart. Post op about an hour now." I replied with a smile. "That's great Derek!" I heard my mom say. "How are the kids?" I asked. "Kids are good. Want to say hi?" Amelia asked. "Of course." I replied. Amelia gave Zola the ohone and her face appeared.

I smiled at my daughters face. "Hi guys!" I exclaimed. "Hi daddy! Are you at the hospital?" Zola asked. "I am. I'm with your mommy right now." I replied. "See mommy?" Ellis asked as she appeared in view. I hesitated for a moment. "Okay, but movie has a tube in her mouth to help her breath. And she has a big white bandage over her chest, too. She's not awake but I'll show you her." I explained. The kids nodded vicariously and I turned the camera to Meredith. "Hi mama!" Ellie yelled. I smiled. "Hi mommy!" Bailey and Zola exclaimed. I looked at Merediths form on the bed and saw her heart beat kick up a beat. "Kids, can you say something to mommy again?" I asked. "Mommy, we miss you!" Bailey yelled. Her heart rate kicked up again.

She can hear us.

(Meredith POV)

I sat on the beach, alone this time when I heard more voices. Not nearby, but in my head. "Hi mama!" I heard Ellie yelled. "Hi mommy!" I heard Zo and Bailey yelled. I smiled at my babies voices. I knew I was in a coma, but if I could hear them, why can't I go home? It didn't make since to me. "Mer, if you can hear me, listen. You are in a medically induced coma to help you. We can take you out, but we want you to get better, and we think it'll help if you aren't conscious. You just had a heart transplant." He said. A heart transplant? Why? "Your heart was failing." He said, almost as if he could hear me. "I know you'll be okay, but i need you. I miss you so much, and I need you to be better." He said. I could hear him getting choked up and it physically hurt that I couldn't do anything. I tried to wake up, but I couldn't. I want to comfort him.

I need to wake up.
