(Meredith POV)

"Good morning Grey. How are you feeling?" Bailey asked as she came in. "Good. Boted." I replied. "Well, I don't know if this is really fun, but your gonna do the breathing test now." She said.

I knew how it worked. I got into the little cubicle and began blowing into the little tube. It was to check my lungs. The function and the lung power.

"Come on Mer, that was weak." Richard said as he walked into the room. "Hey, you try breathing after being stuck in a bed with covid for months." I said out of breath.

Richard chuckled and stood next to Bailey watching the machine work. "One more good one." She instructed. I took a deep breathe before blowing as hard as I could into the machine.

"Nice job. I'll talk to the pulmonologist about this and see what he thinks. I gotta run. I'll check in later." Bailey said as she took Richard out of the room, leaving me alone.

I'm bored. So bored I might die. Dereks working today, and so is what seems like everyone else.. So, i need to get outta here. Or at least out of this room, I mean.

I hauled myself out of the bed and into a wheelchair by my bedside. I knew there was no may I could walk. My legs are so weak.

I checked the hallway before I wheeled around. I checked the board and luckily shadow Shepherd was performing surgery. He wouldn't even recognize me, so it was good.

I got up to the gallery and sat down. I haven't seen or performed a surgery in what seemed like years. Derek had given me details on his, but it's not the same.

(Derek POV)

After my surgery, I went back to Merediths room walking alongside Bailey. "Guess what Shepherd?" Bailey asked. "What?" I asked worriedly, my heart rate shooting up.

"Calm down. It's good. I think Meredith can go home tomorrow." Bailey said. A smile immediately graced my face. "Reallt? It's over? She can leave?" I asked hopefully.

"She passed her breathing test this morning with flying colors. She's negative for covid. Her lung function is 50 times better than we had hoped. Everything seems back to normal for her." Bailey said, relief Evident in her voice.

"Oh that's...that's amazing. Thank you." I breathed as I hugged the short woman tightly. I had come this close to losing my wife forever, and Bailey had helped save her.

"Alright, enough of that mushy stuff. Shall we go tell the patient?" Bailey asked with a smirk. I nodded and we turned to her room.

"Mer?" I asked as I saw she wasn't in bed. I knocked on the bathroom door and opened it only to find nobody. "Where is she?" Bailey asked annoyed.

I had a feeling about where she was. "I'll get her. I'm pretty sure she snuck up into a surgery." I replied. I marched out of the room and checked the board.

Sure enough, the only surgeons who wouldn't know Meredith was in the OR and wouldn't care was Dr Nelson and ab OB. Of course, Meredith would choose Nelson's surgery.

I stood in the doorway of the gallery and watched Meredith looking intently at the surgery going on. "Hey." I said. Meredith jumped slightly at my voice and turned around. "You scared me." She said with a sigh.

"Sorry. What are you doing up here?" I asked as I took a seat next to her. "I was bored." Meredith shrugged. "You shouldn't be up here." I whispered into her ear as I kissed her cheek.

"I brought my wheelchair. I'm fine." She argued. "That's only because you can't walk that far without it. Let's go back, Bailey has some things to discuss." I said.

"Fine." She agreed. I chuckled and took the handle of her chair and began pushing her out of the room.

I got Meredith back to her room and helped her back into her bed. She may be well enough to go home, but I could see and feel just how weak covid had really made her.

"Grey. How was the surgery?" Bailey asked as she came in. "It was good. Patient should make a full recovery." She answered with a smirk.

"No more sneaking around. You're out of here tomorrow." She announced. Merediths expression turned into a huge smile. "I can leave?" She asked.

"You can. Your labs are perfect, sats are decent, and everything's good." Bailey said. "Thank god. Can I go home today?" Meredith asked.

I smiled and squeezed her hand. I knew she'd want to go home the second Bailey told her this. "No grey. Tomorrow." She chuckled.

I looked over at Meredith and saw the exhaustion setting in. "Thank you dr Bailey." She said honeslty. "Of course Meredith. We take care of our own. Get some sleep, you look dead."

I moved the hair out of Merediths face and looked at her. "I get to leave tomorrow." She said with a sleepy smile on her face. "I know." I replied.

"I shouldn't be this tired. I didn't do anything today." Meredith whispered. "Youre gonna feel tired for a while, it's a common side affect after covid. Baileys right, get some sleep." I answered softly.

Meredith patted the side of her bed and I wasted no time in climbing to the side of her. "Sleep." I whispered. Meredith curled into my side and draped an arm over my waist and her head on my chest.

I pulled the covers up so she wouldn't get cold and held her tightly in my arms. Meredith had overcome the thick of it, but it didn't mean she had fully recovered. She still has to beat the symptoms this horrible virus brought, but I have no doubt she won't.
