(Btw, I don't know much about medical stuff, so don't call me out on that lol)

(Derek POV)

I paged Bailey and her other doctors to the room right when I noticed the heart rate thing. "What is it? WhTs wrong?" Bailey asked as she came into the room. "Look at her heart rate when I talk to her. I think she can hear us." I said as he turned to Mer. "Mer, it's me, Derek. I love you." I whispered into her ear. Her heart rate spiked again and I looked back. "See?" I asked.

Bailey walked over to Meredith and leant over. "Grey, it's Bailey. Can you move soemtning if you can hear me?" Bailey asked. It was slight, but Meredith barely raised her pinky finger the slightest bit. "Okay Grey. I don't know how much Derek told you, but you're gonna be okay." Bailey said. Merediths heart rate peaked again and went back down. "I'm gonna go for a minute Mer, I'll be back." I said as I kissed her forehead again.

"Should we take her out of the coma?" I asked as I met the doctors outside. "I think we should." Teddy said. "That will help her heart heal, but with covid we haven't seen anything helpful." She added. "But will she go on a covid high again? Like she did?" Deluca asked. "I can guarantee you she will not be playing superwoman and resuscitating patients." Derek said sternly. "That girl is way too selfless sometimes." Bailey muttered. "Anyways, what do you think Richard?" Bailey asked. "I think we should take her out. She can hear us and she's moving slightly, I think we should get her up. And teddys right, their hasn't been any improvement." Richard explained. "Derek?" Teddy asked.

I sighed. "Let's take her out." I said. "Okay. I want to do this now." Teddy said. She paged an anesthesiologist and he came rushing in. "We're taking her out of the coma. She's gonna probably be in a lot of pain when she's up, so we need pain meds too." Teddy explained. Dr Taylor nodded and we all went into her room.

"Waking her up now." He said as he pushed the medication. "It will probably take some time." He added. I sat down on the couch. "I'll page you guys when she's waking up." I said. They all nodded and left the room to attend to other patients.

(Amelia POV)

"Derek just texted me. Their taking Meredith out of the coma. She's hearing everything they're saying."  I said to mom. "That's great!" Mom exclaimed as she held Ellis. "I still cant get over how much Bailey and Ellis look like Meredith." Mom said. "I know. They both have dereks eyes though." I pointed out. "I wonder if scout will look like you or link. He looks like link now, but Derek looked like me and then when he got older he looked like dad." Mom said. "I miss him." I said quietly. "Me too dear. But he's always looking over us." Mom said. "You know, I came out because I know how Derek is feeling. When the love of your life is barely hanging on." Mom elaborated.  "And then my youngest baby had her first baby." She added softly. I smiled. "I love him so much." I said as I looked down at my sleeping baby.

"It's incredible. The love you feel for the first time." Mom said. "It is." I agreed with tears in my eyes.

(Carolyn POV)

I'm very proud of amy. She turned her life around and now she has a newborn baby boy and a boyfriend who loves her. "I'm proud of you Amy. I know I said some things in the past that I regret deeply, but I'm very proud of you. You're a strong woman. Your father would be proud." I said. "Thank you." She whispered. I hugged her tightly and kissed her check. "I love you." I said. "I love you too mom." She replied.

(Derek POV)

It's been about 45 minutes, and Meredith was now moving her arms. "Mer. Take your time. It's me, derek." I whispered. I paged everyone and they all entered in one by one.

"Is she waking up?" Bailey asked. "I think so." I replied. "Grey, open your damn eyes and wake up." Bailey said sternly. I chuckled and smiled.

I examined everyone's faces as they entered and noticed how tired they looked. Bags under their eyes, red rimmed eyes, they looked flat out exhausted. I felt bad because technically I was still working, and I hadn't done anything practically.

"I'm sorry for not working. I know I'm still on shift, but-." I started. "Shut up Shepherd. Your wife is sick, you need to take care of her. We know." Bailey said sternly, yet soft at the same time. "I'm sorry." I said again. "Derek, don't apologize. Covid sucks and it's exhausting, but being with your wife is more important." Richard said. I nodded and looked back at Meredith.

Then I noticed how exhausted my wife looked. I mean, I know she's been tired and in a coma, but when I studied her features more delicately, I can see the bags under her eyes as well. "I'm here Mer. Wake up when your ready." I said as I stroked her hand soothingly and kissed her forehead. "When she's up are we keeping her intubated?" I asked. "Probably not. She'll fight it, and that won't be good for her heart." Teddy explained. I nodded. "I do want her to wear an oxygen mask or a nasal cannula under her mask at all times though." Teddy said. "Okay." I replied. "It's important they we keep her oxygen levels up, with covid and with the heart thing." Teddy added. "I think she's waking up." Alex said.

I turned my gaze to Meredith and grabbed her hand lightly. "Open your eyes Mer. You got this." I murmered. Slowly, I could see her eyelids opening, revealing her big green eyes. She immediately started fighting the intubation. She was confused, I could tell by how her eyes were darting across the room, and she was in pain, I could tell by the way her eyes welled with tears and how she winced every time she moved. "We're gonna get the tube out Grey. Hang on." Bailey said.

She got ready to take the tube out and Meredith kept her glassy eyes on me. "Cough." Bailey instructed. Meredith coughed and the tube came out. She wheezed and kept coughing. Teddy gently placed an oxygen mask under her normal mask. "We're gonna get you some pain meds now." Dr taylor said. He pushed the medication into her iv. "Hi." She whispered. "Hey." I said back with a smile.
