(Amelia POV)
Walking into the house, I did not expect to see my mother. "Mom?" I exclaimed as I saw her and Derek chatting on the couch. "Amelia." She said as she got up and hugged me, which was surprising because I didn't know where we were on relationship terms.
I hugged her back and pulled away after a minute. "What are you doing here? I told you not to come." I said. "You said Derek was a wreck. Which he is. So I came. And I wanted to see you." She said quietly. "Okay, but that's not the point. Your high risk for covid mom." I scolded. "I know, I know. But I couldn't stay at home by myself when I know my daughter in law is barely hanging on and when my son is caring for 3 kids, and when my daughter just had a baby during a pandemic." Mom explained. I sighed and just hugged her again.
"So where's the baby?" Mom asked as we sat on the couch next to Derek. "Uh, hes with link. Link took him for a drive to calm him down." I explained. Mom nodded and opened her mouth to say something when a kid started wailing. Derek stood up and excused himself from the room.
After a moment of silence, I spoke up. "Mom?" I asked. "Yes?" She responded. "Why didn't you come to my wedding with Owen?" I asked hesistantly. "Amy." She sighed. I looked at her willingly. "Amy, I was just worried that it was a drug induced thing. I heard about your relapse and I didn't want to support that in any way. I'm sorry." She explained softly. "But it was my wedding. My wedding." I tried. "I know Amy. I'll regret not going til the day I die." Mom said. I smiled sadly and hugged her. We continued to catch up and talk for a while.
(Derek POV)
I trudged up to Ellie's room when I heard her crying. I entered her room and walked over to her bed. "What's wrong Ellie Bell?" I asked softly, wiping away her tears. "I want mommy." She cried. My heart broke. "I know El. Me too." I said. "Where is she?" She asked. I sighed. "Mommy is sick. She isn't feeling too well, so she has to stay at the hospital for a little while." I tried to explain. "But when I'm sick, I stay home and I'm only sick for a few days. Why isn't mommy back? It's been a looooooong time." She asked. "Ellie, your mommy was having a tough time breathing. She's not allowed to come home until she can breath better." I explained. Ellie nodded. "Can we FaceTime like we did earlier?" She asked. I didn't know what to say to that, because I knew mer wasn't going to wake up unless we took her out of the coma. "Maybe sweetie. Want to sleep with daddy tonight?" I asked. She nodded and I picked her up.
I carried her to my room and gently placed her down on Merediths side of the bed. Ellie clutched Merediths pillow and closed her eyes. I laid down next to her and she snuggled up to me. "Love you daddy." She mumbled. "I love you too Ellie." I said quietly. We fell asleep into a deep slumber.
(Amelia POV)
After chatting for a little while, mom and I realized Derek never came down. "Let's go check on him." Mom said. We both stood up and I quietly led us to him and Merediths room. I opened the door and saw Derek and Ellie laying together. Carolyn looked at me with a sad, confused expression. "Ellie is very clingy to Meredith. She wants her mama, and she cries at night so Derek takes her in bed." I explained. Carolyn nodded and we left the room quietly.
"So Amy, tell me about Meredith? I hardly know her." Mom asked. "What do you want to know?" I asked. "I don't know. Her family, about her and Derek. I really don't know anything about her." Mom said. "Well, she doesn't really have any of her family. Her mom died a while ago and her dad left when she was a kid. Oh, and her mom was Ellis Grey. Uh, her and Derek met when he came to Seattle, as I'm sure you know. Then Addison came and Derek was a jackass and picked Addison over meredith. Then Derek divorced Addison and got with Meredith. They were off and on for a while until Derek finally grew a pair and popped the question, which she said yes. They got post it married and adopted Zola, then Meredith had Bailey and Ellie." I explained. "Wow." Mom said. "I know." I replied with a chuckle.
"Amy?" Mom asked. "Do you think Meredith will be okay?" She asked. I sighed. "I don't know mom. Meredith is strong. She's overcome a lot. But this? Covid has killed so many people, mom. But she's strong. And she won't leave Derek if she came help it. Those two are so in love it's sickening." I joked. "Derek seems exhausted." Mom pointed out. "He is. The girls are mamas girls and Bailey is a mamas boy. Meredith is a great mom. She doesn't believe it, but she is. And then Derek visits mer every time he can." I explained. Mom smiled sadly and nodded. "I'm really worried about her, mom. She's my sister, and I need her to be okay." I whispered. "I've prayed, Amy. And I believe that if we have a positive mindset then she will be okay." Mom replied. I nodded, tears coming to my eyes. "Well, if it's okay with you guys I'll stay for a while and help out with the kids." Mom offered. "I think that would be great mom." I said softly.
