Chapter 8

Too many bodies and destroyed buildings. I had to take a short route to get closer to Eren, the stumbles they were making each time they set a foot on the ground makes me lose control. But in the end, I managed to grab Eren's shoulders, using my gas to land quickly on his shoulder, holding on to his ear to keep myself from falling. "It's me! Everyone's fine! Keep eyes on Annie!" I shouted. Somehow, with that, Eren ran faster after the blonde Titan. Annie turned around and used a cathedral to stand still, killing many soldiers in the process, now Eren and Annie were staring at each other.

This is the moment.

Annie prepared herself, her posture just as identical as a professional fighter, strong but graceful. I'm asking her too much, but it's supposed to go like this, she knows she doesn't have a choice but to surrender now, but even if I stayed with my mouth shut I'm sure she would have fought with all her might until the end.

"Don't give up without a fight. It's important to remember that no matter your size, age or skin color, you can show your strength in many ways."

My grandfather's face comes to mind in a time like this. He's the embodiment of strength and reason, the ray of joy in the family, and I plan to see them all again. I grabbed on Eren firmly as he went to punch Annie, but she blocked him with a hardened elbow. The blonde Titan failed to kick Eren in the face as he had kneeled, and he took a hold of her leg before throwing her to the buildings in the other street.

Eren protected me with a hand as reached for Annie, but she dodged him easily. A few tears ran down my cheeks as I saw the many casualties we left behind. Commander Erwin would say this is the best for humanity, but truly, in my eyes, this is destruction without a point, but maybe I see it like this because I know what will happen in the end.

I glanced at Eren and saw him looking at me, I widened my eyes slightly at this. Is he telling me to get off him? I blinked a few times before nodding. "Be careful, she can harden her body much faster than you think." He nodded, a saddened glint on his eyes before setting his whole attention on Annie again. I used my gear to grapple to the building at my right, and my eyes spread a bit when I saw a different flash in his eyes, Eren was losing his humanity. You have to let go of an important part of yourself if you want to fight against the monsters.

Annie hardened her leg and with a kick she sliced Eren, but before he could fall, he hit her in the face, stumbling back a few steps and regaining her posture. Once again she used her leg, successfully trapping him against a building, but Eren bit her and didn't seem to let go. The Female Titan began hitting his head with a hardened hand. "EREN!!" I screamed. Annie glanced at me slowly, my heart stopped right then and there, but she ran away, leaving me with a dumbfounded expression. "Annie... I'm sorry, but you won't get away that easily..." I murmured, not bothering to look at Eren as he stood with all his energy back, and a lot stronger.

I grappled to where Hange, Mikasa, Armin and Jean are, receiving a smile from Armin. "(Y/N)! Where were you??" He asked. "With Eren, right now he's in beast mode. Nobody will be able to survive a rage like that."

"Gods, not even you?" Hange asked, walking to my side. "If you want me to be another cause of the many damages, yes. I won't transform knowing too many have lost their lives. I'm sorry, but it's all up to Eren." I clenched my hands as I looked down, Armin patted my back softly and his hand stayed there. We watched Eren strangling Annie to the ground, and with a strong hold to her face, he destroyed and blood splashed to the ground and buildings.

As Annie screamed in pain I hid my ears, she kicked him off and threw him to the building we're onto, and tried to escape by climbing. "She's headed up the Wall!" Shouted Jean. "She's trying to escape!" Hange exclaimed. Eren jumped to grab her legs and stop her, but he was kicked off. "No! No! No! We can't let her get away!" Armin said, and Mikasa grappled up the Wall to cut her fingers, letting her fall and be dismembered by Eren's powerful hits. With sharpened teeth, he bit on the flesh.
