Friday at school,
Hayden put his bag in his locker and started taking out his books.
Johnny walked up to him
"Hey. You ok?" He said as he leaned against the locker next to him
"Yeah... why?"
"No reason." Johnny said
Hayden looked at and raised an eyebrow
"What?" Johnny asked
"Have you forgotten?!"
"What? Oh! Sorry. Happy birthday." Johnny said as he kissed Hayden's cheek "Welcome to the 17 year old club."
"I don't want in. You're in it." Hayden said
"Wow... rude."
Hayden smiled "So what's this surprise you were talking about last week?"
"You'll find out. Tonight, round my place. And it's only me there for the night, so you can stay over."
"Why, where's Grey and Claudia?"
"On a business weekend. And I've paid Claire to look after Hunter and Olivia for the night." Johnny told him
"Alright. What time?"
"Come round at 6." Johnny said before he kissed him
"Johnny! Could you come into my office please?" The principal asked as he walked over to them
"Yeah, sure." Johnny said
He winked at Hayden before he followed the the principal to his office
"Please, sit down." The principal said as he sat behind the desk
Johnny dropped his bag on the floor before he sat down opposite him.
"So, Johnny... I've been meaning to talk to you since you came back to school."
"Sir, can I just say thanks for letting me having so much time off school. I know I'm not even in anyone's top 50 students, so the way you treated me was amazing."
"Well, you're very welcome." The principal said, surprised by Johnny's politeness "So how have you been doing?"
"I've been doing pretty good for the last week."
"Good. So... have you thought about college?" The principal asked
"Um... not really. I thought for years there was no chance of it... cos of my mom. But... now I dunno. I don't even know what I would study." Johnny said
"Well, from what I've been told. You were the one who wrote the script for the school's play last month. Weren't you?"
"I mean, I helped. It wasn't difficult."
"But not even our own drama teacher couldn't write one." The principal joked and they both laughed "So I've got an opportunity for you."
"What is it?" Johnny asked as the principal opened a drawer and pulled out a flyer
"A writing competition." He said, handing the flyer to Johnny "The winner gets a 1 thousand dollar prize."
