A couple of weeks later,
Everyone walked into the school hall for assembly for the principal to announce the winner of the writing competition
"You think you've won?" Hayden asked as they sat down
"No. There's just no way."
"You think the principal has fixed it for you to win? Because of your bet?" Hayden asked
"He doesn't decide the winner. The competition was made by some writer for every high school and middle school in the state. Apparently over 1000 people entered." Johnny told him
The hall slowly filled with students.
"Hey, you confident?" Annie asked as her and Asher sat down
"No way! The principal had better started looking for a new job." Johnny said
"Don't worry, you've still got tennis to fall back on." Annie joked
"Shut up about that!" Johnny laughed
Hayden and Asher looked at each other, confused
"You two cheating on us or something? You two have gotten pretty close this last couple of weeks." Asher joked
Johnny and Annie looked at each other
"Yeah, obviously." He joked as he moved his arm round Annie
They all laughed as Johnny moved his arm away from her
Silence filled the hall and the principal stood up on the stage
"Good morning, everyone." He said in the microphone "Hope you all had a good weekend. This week's assembly will be quite short. I just need to announce something."
He took an envelope out of his jacket
"Now, you all know that there was a writing competition for every school in the state. Quite a few people from this school entered and a couple from your grade. Well, I'm very please to announce that winner came from this school, in particular this grade."
"You've definitely won." Hayden whispered
"Definitely haven't."
"So now it is time to announce the winner." The principal said before he opened the envelope "So the winner of the state's writing competition is... Johnny Orlando!"
The teachers, Hayden, Annie and Asher awkwardly clapped, while every other student stayed silent
"Johnny, come up here." The principal said as everyone stopped clapping
"Johnny go." Hayden said
Johnny reluctantly stood up and everyone glared at him as he walked up to the stage
"Congratulations, Johnny." The principal said as he handed him the $1000 cheque
"Yeah thanks." Johnny said before he quickly went off the star and sat back down
Johnny and Hayden were stood by their lockers
"Well done, I'm proud of you." Hayden said to Johnny
Johnny smiled weakly, looking down at the cheque in his hand
"Give me that." Someone said behind him as he reached over and took the cheque of him
