A couple of weeks later,
Johnny and Hayden were sat in an empty classroom on the second floor of the school.
"Don't wanna go out and see your achievements?" Hayden said, looking out of the window at the school field, where was filled with stalls
There were food stalls, activities, games filled with students, teachers, parents and people who lived in the area
"It's not my achievements." Johnny said, sat on a desk
Hayden turned to face him, "You organised all this."
"No. I paid for it all. Actual hired organisers and the teachers arranged everything."And they're getting interviewed and pictures taken by the press."
"That should be."
"Who would want to take pictures of a guy with a smashed up face?" Johnny said, his face still had bruises and cuts
"You're still the most handsome man I've ever met." Hayden said with a smile
Johnny smiled back before Hayden kissed him
"So..." Hayden started nervously "... so what did happen to Rush and Kenzie?"
"Rush has been sent off the middle of nowhere at a military school. And Kenzie's gone to live with her grandparents in Canada." Johnny told him
Hayden looked at him
"What?" Johnny asked
"Nothing. Just... nothing." Hayden said before there was a knock at the door
"What?!" Johnny called out to the door
The door opened and Grey walked in
"Hayden, could you give us a minute?" He asked
"Yeah." Hayden said and Johnny kissed his cheek before he left
"What?" Johnny asked Grey
"What're you doing up here? Just sulking in a classroom."
"Cos I've got nothing to smile about." Johnny said
Grey walked over to him and sat on the desk next to him.
"You don't have to pretend. Not anymore. Not with me." Grey told him
"What's the point?"
"So you don't have to bottle everything. It's not healthy." Grey said
Johnny was quiet for a moment, "I just... it's weird. One day, I can feel... happy. Energetic. I'd play with Hunter and Olivia, hang out with Hayden. Do yard work or something. But then the next day... I'd feel to weak to get out of bed and I'd be ignoring everyone."
Grey moved his hand onto Johnny's shoulder
"Grief isn't straightforward. It's complicated. It's not just feeling sad for a while. It's having good days, having bad days. Getting upset over tiny, stupid things."
"But why? Why does it have to be like that?" Johnny asked as he looked at Grey, his eyes watering
"Because that's not how human minds work. It's tough. I know." Grey said as he moved his hand through Johnny's hair
Johnny leaned his head on Grey's shoulder and felt Grey's arm move round him
"With time... it's going to be ok." Grey said
"Just feels like nothing's going well for me."
Grey was quiet for a second, "Well... I've got some good news."
