I sit next to Bolin with a wide smile on my face. We sit in one of the balconies looking down to the ring where a large screen hangs, waiting for the mover to be projected onto it. I can hear the audience murmuring with conversation as they wait with anticipation for the mover to begin. This atmosphere is completely different to the atmosphere pro bending brings, but the excitement is the same.
My head turns towards Bolin and I feel my smile falter when I see that he isn't happy. I place my hand on his, brushing my thumb across his skin gently. He looks at me and I smile sweetly at him.
"Are you okay?" I ask quietly. He sighs and smiles back to me, but I know that he is just doing it for my benefit.
"Yeah." He says. I bring his hand onto my lap and start playing with his fingers with my other hand.
"Bo, you deserve to enjoy tonight. You've worked so hard on this mover." I say gently as I look up at him.
"Yeah, I know." He says and sighs again. My attention is forced away from Bolin as the crowd cheers loudly. I watch as Varrick walks towards the centre of the ring with a microphone in hand, and when he reaches it, he stops and looks up to the crowd.
"Thank you all for coming to the finale of Nuktuk: Hero of the South." He says, creating another roar from the crowd. However, the crowd soon dies down as Varrick starts to talk about the Water Tribe conflict and I feel myself frown. "The characters speak of the injustice that's happening in the Southern Water Tribe right now. My hope is that their words and this epic mover will inspire a real-life hero to rise up and help." He says looking up towards a balcony and it's when I look closer that he was talking to President Raiko. Well, he did say that he was going to use this mover to convince him. I have to say that it's a smart plan.
"Thank you again. Enjoy the show." Varrick says into the microphone and the crowd begins to cheer. The lights then go off and the mover begins sending a wave of excitement through me. I continue to play with Bo's fingers as I lean back and stare at the screen.
Bolin's mover is amazing, and although I've seen some of these scenes being shot, I'm still surprised and thrilled like the rest of the audience. I love it. And I also love being able to admire how Bo looks in his suit and in his Nuktuk costume at the same time.
"I think this is your best mover yet." Asami whispers to Bolin and I smile. She is so right about that.
"I just wish Mako was here to see it." I hear Bolin whisper back. My head quickly turns towards my boyfriend when I catch the tone of his voice and I feel my heart ache when I see his sad expression. '
"He'd be really proud of you." I say quietly. He turns to me and gives me a small smile, but I know it isn't genuine. He entwines our fingers and I frown when I realise I can't fidget with them anymore. So, instead I gently rub small circles against the back of his hand as we continue to watch the mover.
I'm not sure how long it is until Bolin takes his hand from mine and stands up. I quickly move my attention away from the mover and onto him.
"Where are you going?" I ask him.
"I just need some air." He simply replies before walking out of the balcony and into the corridor behind us. I frown as I watch him leave feeling unsettled by Bo's sadness. He has been looking forward to tonight all week and now that he's here it's like he isn't letting himself enjoy it. Something is going on with him, something more than Mako being arrested.
I slip out of my chair and leave the balcony. I make my way to corridor and start walking down, letting my eyes scan around trying to find Bolin. He has just left, where could he have gone? I carry on walking around until I feel the night breeze brush against my bare arms. My head turns towards an open door and I see Bo standing against the railing, looking over the ocean. I watch him for a moment before walking over to him. I lean against the railing with my eyes locked onto his face. He doesn't look at me, but I can tell that he know's I'm here.
