It has been a couple of weeks since Korra defeated Unalaq and it's safe to say that things have changed. Spirits have been free to join our world and as a result Republic City has been covered in spirit vines. I've tried to help Korra remove them, but no matter what we try they just seem to grow back. Although I don't really mind them, the people of the city hate it and they don't shy away from telling Korra exactly what they think about it. I think it's ridiculous. Korra saved the world yet they don't let up.
When we returned to the City I informed my mother about what had happened, and although the Fire Nation hasn't been hit by the vines, she had said that spirits had come to visit.
My grandfather had also told me that there are no records of heat bending and I'm still unsure about how I feel about it. On one hand, I'm relieved that no one else can hurt people as easily as I was able to, but on the other it would have helped me understand heat bending if someone had already mastered it. I had told Lord Zuko about what I did expecting him to tell me to stop practicing immediately, but he didn't. He told me something which his uncle used to say to him, 'It is usually best to admit mistakes when they occur, and seek to restore honour'. Hurting those men tainted the honour behind heat bending, but I can clean the image by only using it for pure intent. It's like Bolin said: heat bending is only bad if I use it in bad ways.
Since being back Bolin has helped me work on my heat bending. I was hesitant at first, but thanks to him I'm now able to see things clearly through people's heat signatures, and I have been able to control the temperature of my flame. I'm not sure how changing the heat of my fire will help in the future, but Bo seems to think that it will benefit us. He has supported me so much through all of this. I honestly don't know what I'd do without him.
I walk through the air temple grounds with a small smile on my face as I read the letter I'd received from Hani. He had decided to stay with his family after everything that had happened, and according to his letter, tensions between the tribes have completely gone which is amazing news. It's sad that he's no longer staying in Republic City, especially because Bamir left the city as well, but I know it's for the best.
"Ula." A voice calls gaining my attention. I look up to see Bolin walking towards me. The setting sun behind him illuminates his face in a way that makes it impossible not to admire.
"Hey, did you speak to Mako?" I ask as he reaches me. He sighs and stops in front of me.
"Yeah, he still won't come." He says and I huff in annoyance. The spirit vines destroyed their home and so they had both been invited to stay at the temple. Bolin had sense and accepted a room, but Mako is being annoyingly stubborn and is staying at the police station. Sure he might be a detective now and have an office, but that doesn't mean he has to sleep there as well.
"I'll talk to him. I'm sure I could say something that might knock some sense into him." I say. Bolin chuckles and we start to walk inside.
"Good luck with that." He says. "Is that from Hani?" He asks as he looks down at the letter I'm holding.
"Yeah, he says that he's become Katara's apprentice. It's weird that he is working under the best healer in the world when he couldn't heal this time last year." I say feeling insanely proud of my friend.
"That's amazing. What about Bamir? Have you heard from him?" Bo asks and I feel my smile fall.
"No and I don't even know where he is now. I don't understand why he'd just leave like that." I say sadly. A large hand takes mine and I turn to see Bo's small smile.
"I'm sure you'll see him soon." He assures me. I smile and nod.
"I hope so." I reply.
We walk through the halls until we make it to the dining room. Bolin lets go of my hand and we both set the table for Pema. She smiles thankfully as she holds her youngest son Rohan. It doesn't take Bo and I long to place all of the food on the table and we both take a seat along with the rest of the air bending family as we begin to eat happily.
