Lulu lands on the ground next to Oogi and we all immediately jump off. I look over at Bolin and I can see his excitable smile. I don't need to ask why, I already know it's because Mako is being released. I have to wonder though whether he actually believed Mako could have done all of this. To me, he seemed to have given up trying to help his brother before we could even try anything, maybe it was because he thought he was guilty. At least now he knows that his brother is innocent.
Chief Beifong's metal benders march the criminals into the prison with us all close behind. I quickly make my way to the front of the group so that I'm by Lin's side.
"Can I use your radio please?" I ask as I give her a look. She nods and points towards a door.
"Through there and the first room on the right." She says with a small smile. I thank her and quickly leave the group. I'm not sure what my mother's response is going to be, and although I said to Korra that it is a good idea to request the troops, I'm still not sure. Harmonic Convergence could lead to 10,000 years of darkness, we need all the help we can get. However, I'm still unsure whether it's wise to involve the Fire Nation. It's a tough one, which is why I'll respect whatever my mother says.
I walk through the door and make my way into the small room. I move towards the radio, turning it on and tuning it to the right frequency. I hope my mother is still awake, I really don't want to ruin her sleep. I press the button on the side of the microphone and lick my lips.
"This is Princess Ulazu, I need to speak with Fire Lord Izumi." I say with confidence through the microphone. There is a moment of silence as I wait for a response and I feel myself smile as I realise that this wait doesn't form a ball of anxiety in my stomach like I usually do. Now that my mother and I have spoken things through and have realised the strain we had on our relationship, it makes speaking with her more of a delight than a chore.
"Of course, I shall get the Fire Lord right away." I hear a woman's voice crackle through the speakers. I stay quiet and it isn't long before my mother's voice sounds.
"Ulazu, is everything alright?" She asks.
"I am afraid not, mother. Avatar Korra has returned to Republic City and has informed us that the world is in danger. Unalaq is trying to release a dark spirit during Harmonic Convergence in a couple days, and if he is allowed to do this, our world will be brought into 10,000 years of darkness." I explain. My mother is silent on the other end of the radio and I can't stop my heart from beating faster as I wait for her response.
"So, what help can I provide the Avatar? Are you requesting our army?" She questions and I sigh.
"I am, mother. If I'm honest, I am unsure about what is right by our nation. All I know is that I-we must do whatever it takes to put a stop to Unalaq." I reply.
"It is a difficult decision to make however, if Harmonic Convergence is merely days away then there is no help the Fire Nation can provide. It would take a number of weeks for our fleet to reach the Southern Water Tribe." She says and I close my eyes. I'm not sure how Korra is going to take this news. She has hardly any backup without the help of Republic City and the Fire Nation, she just has a handful of benders willing to risk it all for the world.
"Okay, I understand. I shall speak with you soon." I say as I go to put the microphone back.
"Ulazu, with everything going on, I must request that you remain in Republic City." Her voice crackles. I frown and furrow my brows as I raise the microphone to my lips again.
"I understand your concern, but I will be going to help the Avatar. This is no longer a Water Tribe conflict, this is a matter of preventing a dark age." I say.
