n i n e. fire and ice
Hey.
Did you know what happens when fire meets water? Has it ever crossed your mind to witness who would win in a crossfire between these two elements?
There was a time when I did too, I would play with both of them, trying to see who wins, but never could complete my experiment because my mother often barged in and ended it.
Never play with either of them, Jugnu, she'd say to me, they can kill you both.
To be honest, I just wanted to know what happens when you put them together.
And today was the day, everyone, today was the day because my raging mother and supposedly calm father, finally had a talk.
More like a war.
But let's call it a talk.
And as I'm packing my bags, I realized that I was not ready to know who'd win in a war with fire and water. I was so much invested in knowing how it would end, that I completely forgot that the battle was going to be hard.
Why am I packing my bags, you'd ask, well, because Jugnu Mishra, that is me, completely witnessed a war between fire and water.
Or in simpler terms, my parents.
And let's just say, the process was very thrilling and loud.
I'll walk you through it, don't worry...

'Do I have to wear this!' Jugnu asked, more like screeched at the fact that her mother removed her a beautiful Indian dress, and she gagged at it. 'Argh.'
'Jug, you call me dramatic, you know that?' Pranati smiled, shaking her head at her daughter who held the piece of clothing like it was trash. 'And yes, I would love to see you out of these baggy tomboyish clothes for once.'
Jugnu smirked, walking towards her mother who was already dolled up in a beautiful yellow salwar, her hair left down. 'DM, you know the deal right?'
'You know I'm your mother, right?' Pranati looked down at her smug daughter, sometimes she didn't know who was whose mother.
Their intense staring match was interrupted by a knock on the door, and Chetna barged in, already looking gorgeous in her attire. 'How long! Let's go, I am getting engaged."
With that Chetna banged everyone else's door, telling them to hurry up because the engagement ceremony was about to start. Jugnu got dressed in her yellow overalls, disagreeing to her mother's choice of clothes and waiting for her mother to acknowledge the deal they made.
'The day you wear what I want you to wear, is the day I wear what you want me to wear.' Jugnu had told Pranati a year back, when she last wore a dress.
Jugnu hated that dress. It was frilly, itchy and bright.
'You'll look so off amongst everyone there.' Pranati told her stubborn daughter, 'And dekhna, everyone's going to laugh at you.'
'Good, because if they laugh at you, then I'd break their teeth.' Jugnu said determined and a smile broke on Pranati's face.
'Jugnu...' Pranati feigned being annoyed, 'Aise nahi kehte...'
Jugnu stood in front of her mother who actually looked really pretty and elegant in such clothes, and then she looked at herself. She wouldn't look pretty. She would just be a funny looking clown for everyone. She wouldn't be surprised if people made fun of her when she would wear something other than her normal clothes.
