f o r t y t w o. jaisi beti, waisa baap
Pranati was done with the father-daughter duo.
It had been two days since the terrible accident(s) and while both of them were alive and well, one on a strict diet while being grounded, the other roaming around with a cast around his right arm. Since Reyansh needed extra help, Pranati decided it best to let him sleep in his room and she'd take the sofa.
But Jugnu insisted - rather pleaded for her parents to sleep with her and Pranati did not refute to her demands.
They were pampered, loved and adored even more by the Khuranas now that they had 'defeated death' - Baljeet Khuranas' words - but they got no attention from the one person they wanted around.
Pranati Mishra did her best to not interact with either of them.
Sure she was around them, she helped Jugnu take her meds, she nursed Reyansh's arm, she cooked them the instant noodles they suddenly craved, she sat with them at the dining table, she slept with them in their room but she was not talking to either of them.
That made them sad.
"But why is she not talking to us?" Jugnu asked Anisha who was helping the father-daughter take their set of medications on time. "Shouldn't she be around us and coddle us even more! We had a near-death experience!"
Reyansh handed Jugnu her pills and took his as they clinked their water glasses and gulped their bitter medicines in one shot. Jugnu was ready to remove them out but Reyansh pushed the glass on her mouth so she had no choice but to gulp them down.
They were so similar to each other, Anisha smiled, they deserved to be a happy family.
"Where is she?" Jugnu enquired, she had not seen her mother since morning. It was new to her, since her mother was practically always around her and nag her till she was exhausted. "I have a bone to pick with her. How can she ignore her ekloti baarish like that?"
Reyansh smiled, as he cutely ruffled her hair and she swatted his hand from her head. Only to hit the injured arm and while Reyansh winced, Jugnu patted it softly while blowing air on the cast.
"Well, Pranati needs some time from you two."
Reyansh frowned, "why?"
"Why?" Anisha shook her head, "you two really don't know how much you both scared her. My girl was practically wailing with both of you collapsing at the same time!"
That did not quite occur to them. Reyansh and Jugnu looked at each other and pouted, turning to face Anisha again. The wise lady was the only one in the house that could knock some sense into the mischievous duo.
"I did not really think about it that way."
"Neither did I."
Anisha smiled, shaking her head dramatically. "Think about it, God forbid if anything happened to her-"
"BHABHI!"
"CHACHI!"
They surprised Anisha when they yelled at the same time. The very thought about their precious human being in harm's way was scary for the duo. They'd do anything, burn the world, freeze the humans, start and end wars - all and anything for her.
"God you two are the same person!" Anisha sighed, getting up from the bed and making her way out of the room. "Don't overexert yourself, you two are still under observation."
"Can we atleast play some video games?" Reyansh groaned aloud, pleading like a kid, "it is so boring to be grounded."
Since Pranati had grounded Jugnu for being so careless and hasty for a couple of days, Baljeet grounded Reyansh for the same reasons. It was comical to see the father-daughter be punished for the same reasons and after two days of plain food and no video games, it was getting too boring.
