s e v e n t e e n. Volleyball and bruises.

Dear Reyansh,

That was pretty sweet of you. I never thought you, out of everyone, would defend me. I don't mind being called a nerd you know, I actually take pride in it, but what I liked more is that you stood up for me.

Almost beat him up too.

Geez, the adrenaline was too high I guess.

Thank you.

But, just so you know, if you hadn't jumped in, I would have surely beaten him up. I mean, no one messes with Pranati Mishra and gets away with it you know.

Actually you will now.

Since we're best friends now!

Don't roll your eyes, we are besties! The whole college knows that, and I know you secretly do like me and my company.

Why are you always so silent and sad? My friends tell me that you're a lost case and I'm wasting my time with you and these letters.

Guess you proved them wrong today.

Yours,
Pranati

P.s. Thank you for being there

'So... how did I do?'

However Jugnu's hesitant question was unanswered, because Pranati was still checking her homework and Jugnu only hoped to have fared well. She really did try her best to understand the  concepts and apply her mind. Jugnu wanted Pranati to accompany them to the picnic, maybe this could draw her closer to getting her mother happy again. Even if it wouldn't, she'd love to take a break with her mother.

While Pranati kept her eyes on the tiny books, adjusting her specs on her nose, Jugnu nervously fidgeted with her hands. Meanwhile, Reyansh managed to suppress a yawn, really bored.

Both the girls looked at him, their eyes narrowed while Reyansh shrugged. Jugnu gulped, crossing her fingers as she hoped that somehow her mother would sideline all the mistakes she made and approve the homework. She really wanted a nice picnic in the park with her mother carefree for once.

'Yaar, Pranati... itne main toh school term khatam ho jata hai.' Reyansh groaned, tsking as Pranati now looked at him. 'It's third grade, not boards. Jaldi karo...'

Pranati rolled her eyes, 'like you know a lot about school terms and boards.'

'More than you!' Reyansh folded his arms across his chest, challenging Pranati into a war of words again. 'Don't forget, school main top tha main.'

'Really?' Jugnu asked, doubting that.

Her doubtful tone caused Pranati to chuckle as she continued reviewing the homework and Reyansh to take offence. 'Of course, I was... I mean am smart.'

'I don't know dude...' Jugnu hissed, showing her disbelief. 'You and topper?'

'Fine!' Reyansh raised his hands, 'Not a topper okay, but definitely top ten.'
