t h i r t y o n e. cold showers and camp nights
Pranati carefully got up from the bed only to hold her head in pain. She was still numb from being unconscious the entire day, so she stumbled while walking only to be caught by Reyansh. He wrapped his arm around the woman and helped her sit back on the bed, kneeling in front of her.
"You insane?" He touched her forehead, checking if she was feverish and then her pulse. Pranati stayed still, trying to figure out what was happening. "Does you head ache? Do you feel pain somewhere? What about the dizziness?" Reyansh touched her arms, trying his best to check on her.
"Reyansh, I am fine." She withdrew her arms from his touch, and ran her hand through her hair. "What happened?" She looked over at Jugnu who was sleeping soundly, "why are you... I don't remember anything."
Reyansh sighed a breath of relief, "you have no idea how scared we both were." He watched her slowly look at him with a less frustrated gaze. "Don't do that again. Never, you are not allowed to fall sick. That's it."
Pranati scoffed, eyeing Reyansh who was still kneeling down and talking to her. Rather, ordering her to not fall sick. At times like this, Pranati wanted to forget whatever happened between them and start afresh. She hated how much resentment she had carried in her heart all these years, unknowingly harming herself more than anyone.
Maybe it was time to forgive and let go.
She stood up, only to sit back down in a huff. She was still dizzy and Reyansh immediately got on his feet, hands on his hips and disapproved expression on his face.
"You were down for a whole day, give yourself some time."
"I want to use the washroom," Pranati muttered softly, but she could not stand. She had no energy, not even to carry the conversation with Reyansh. "But I can't-"
Before she could even complete her sentence, she found herself scooped up in the warmth of a very familiar cologne. She looked at Reyansh who had carried her like she was a stack of papers. Reyansh looked down at the girl who was both appalled and alarmed at the very sudden action but he did not budge.
"Reyansh..." Her soft voice sounded like music to him, "put me... put me down..." She held onto his shoulders, afraid she might fall even though she was safe in his arms.
Reyansh ignored her soft pleas and carried her to the bathroom, and would have continued to carry her if she wasn't adamant to be placed on the floor. So he did what she asked, placing her down on the bathroom floor with his arm wrapped around her. As anticipated, Pranati lost her balance and her hand hit the shower handle, resulting in two things.
For Reyansh to hold Pranati close to him and for the cold water to drench them completely.
Pranati leaned on Reyansh, unable to stand as the latter looked down at the woman in his arms. The water washing all of their differences, and in that moment, Reyansh swore he felt like he was falling in love all over again. This was exactly how he felt back when he fell for Pranati, his heart skipping beats, and the urge to hold the girl close to him getting stronger.
The sick woman on the other hand, looked up at Reyansh, the cold water pouring on them was like a cold balm to their burning past.
His messy hair were now falling over his eyes and Pranati couldn't help but brush them with her hand, since his arms were wrapped around her.
None of them considered shutting the tap or separating from each other, for now they took their time to understand what kind of a fate they were destined for. Surely, this was just a foul play by the universe to draw them closer after eight years of sheer pain and hardships.
