1. St. Stephen's College
2. Singing
3. RK
When Reyansh explained to Pranati about the side of the deal she did not know about, Pranati gravely looked at the picture in her hand.
It was the picture of her singing at the last annual competition in college and was gifted to her by Reyansh. She had carried this picture with her to Mussoorie despite the fact that she claimed to hate the man. But, it was forgotten and tucked in the corner of her little bag and Jugnu got hold of it somehow.
That when this all started.
The suddenly wanting to go Delhi, the frequent visits to St. Stephen's college, the agreement of wanting to stay with the Khuranas' and the different activities set up only because Jugnu wanted Pranati to be happy as she was in the picture.
Her daughter went through all of this, for her. And she did not even know about it.
Pranati looked at the picture, turning it and reading the inscription written on it in Reyansh's vague handwriting.
While the picture may capture your beautiful smile, it cannot capture the sound of your laughter. It's forever in my heart, Prani.
Mere liye Tum Kaafi Ho,
R.K.
"Jugnu... you silly silly girl." Pranati shook her head, tears brimming in her eyes. She was overwhelmed by the little act of her selfless daughter who only wanted to see her smile. "What am I do about you?"
Reyansh had revealed everything to Pranati as they sat on the wooden bench outside the clinic. Jugnu was still asleep and her parents were thinking about what would come next.
"She just..." Reyansh sat back, sighing. "She is a good kid."
Pranati nodded, "all this while she wanted me to be happy and I couldn't even smile around her."
"You are both annoying, you know that?" Reyansh had recovered from his panic attack and was back to being his normal self. He did not flinch when Pranati glared at him. "Both of you love each other more than yourselves. You spent that last eight years in utter hardships to give your child a good happy life and your kid, she spends each second to make her mother happy and loved. This reminds me of the story you once narrated to me, the gift of maggie?"
"The gift of the Magi." Pranati was horrified at that pronunciation but brushed it aside with a smile. "Where the couple gift each other something by selling their most precious thing..."
"Only for them to have no use at the end because they had each sold what was dearest to them." Reyansh nodded, chuckling. "She loves you a lot, and you love her. Itna kaafi hai, Prani."
Shaking her head with a scoff, Pranati rested her back on the stony wall. "She clearly wants more and rightfully so, Reyansh. Jugnu loves you, and your family and if I deny her what she loves, how am I ever going to keep her happy."
"You heard her... she... she hates me..." Reyansh lowered his gaze, playing nervously with his hands.
"You believe that?" Pranati held his hands to stop him from picking on his nails, "she absolutely adores you, respects you and clearly wants you around. I have never seen her throw a tantrum before, I have never seen her cry for things, I have never seen her want something so much that she is ready to be vulnerable for it."
Reyansh met Pranati's soft brown gaze and could find himself easing at her calm voice.
"There was always something about you Rey that made me want to befriend you, that made me want to know you, to love you." Pranati considered it best to confront than avoid the matter at hand. "There is just something about you that neither me, nor my daughter can understand but feel safe with."
