Maegan's POV
My aunt couldn't care less about it being early. She knew I liked to sleep late, but she purposely woke me up at 5am with a phone call.
"Hello," I groaned. I sat up in bed, struggling to stay covered. I always sleep in a cold room.
"Listen, I don't know why you didn't tell me Hannah failed a test," my aunt, Gina, began. "I can't have you not going to college when you can get in the best colleges, and I can't have Hannah not get in one at all if she wanted to. Now, I'm booking for a plane ride next week. I'll be coming to get Hannah. Your uncle and I talked this over."
"I don't get a say in this?" I asked, no longer caring if I froze.
"You and her we're both left to your uncle and I when your parents passed, but you're an adult now. You promised us you could watch over her, as in make sure her she studies. You lost your say after the fifth test she failed in a row."
I had a feeling this was coming after Hannah told me she failed her latest test. I was hoping the feeling was wrong, but it wasn't.
"What day are you coming?" I asked. "I want to spend a lot of time with her before you come. Just give me an exact date."
"It'll actually be February 10th. I'll talk to you before then, but make sure she is packed up." There was a silence. "I love you, Maegan. I really do. Your uncle loves you too. I'll call you tomorrow."
I didn't even respond with words. I scoffed and hung up. This was not the way I wanted to wake up, but I wasn't going to let it bring me down. Sadly, I'd have to break the news to Hannah, but I was going to take her to do something of her choice.
It was too early to wake her up, so I let her sleep. There was no way I could fall back asleep, so I turned on the TV.
I didn't think Ashton would be up at this hour, but I would have to cancel my plans with him today.
"Hey, Ashton. I doubt you're awake, so call me whenever you are," I texted Ashton.
I began to watch TV until my phone rang, three hours later.
"Hey," I answered.
"Morning," Ashton started off. "What's up?"
"I'm going to have to take a rain check today. Some personal things came up today, so can we reschedule?" I asked.
"Have you been crying?" he asked. "I hear the cracks in your voice."
"I was," I answered.
"Why?" he asked.
"My aunt called me this morning--" I explained everything that happened. Ashton probably didn't want to hear it, but I wanted to tell someone.
"That sucks, but you're doing the right thing by hanging out with her. I understand. You do what you have to do with her."
"It sucks because I was actually looking forward to later," I admitted.
"I was too," he said.
"Ashton, Calum needs you!" I heard in the background.
Ashton sighed. "I got to go. Call me later or something. I hope everything turns out okay."
"Me too. Bye," I hung up. I continued to sit in my bed. It was a little after 8, and I didn't expect Hannah to wake up for maybe an hour or two. I was dreading it, so I watched TV.
"You're just like your mom. I don't know how I put up with you all these years!" someone on my TV yelled at his wife.
"Maybe it's because you really love me," his wife yelled back.
"No, it's because I was stupid. You're a bitch," he said calmly. He walked out the door with a slam of the door following slowly behind. I was watching a soap that I used to love. I slowly stopped watching it after this couple got married, and I missed whatever went down between the couple. They seemed perfect whenever they got together, but I guess something big went down. I looked up and saw Hannah at the door.
"What was that noise? Did you slam a door?" she asked.
"It was the TV," I said and motioned to the TV.
"Daisy's Drama," she said the name of the soap. "They got into a fight? I saw it coming."
"You still watch?" I asked. "What happened between them?"
"She slept around," she said. She jumped up on the bed.
I didn't know how to do this. "I got to talk to you about something," I blurted.
"Can it wait? I haven't even had breakfast," Hannah said.
I shook my head. "It's about Aunt Gina and your grades." I saw the nervousness in Hannah's eyes.
"No," she whined. I let out a short sigh. "You're not going to even do anything, are you?"
"I would if I could. Legally, you're not even supposed to be living with me," I began to explain.
"But you could legally get rights." She started getting mad. "I wouldn't have to leave over failing a test."
"I'm not the best guardian, Hannah. Mom and Dad knew that. That's why they wanted you to go with Aunt Gina and Uncle Steve. Trust me, this is the best thing."
I didn't believe that this was the best thing. I felt like Hannah would be better with me, emotionally. This is going to feel like I'm losing my sister.
"Whatever! Go drink at clubs and enjoy your life! When am I leaving?"
"February 10th," I answered.
"I'm going to start packing," she said and exited my room.
Definitely didn't go as I planned...
I jumped out of bed and rushed up to Hannah's room. The door was wide open, so I entered. Hannah was throwing clothes on her bed.
"I don't want this you, you know? I rather you be here with me. Don't be mad at me," I told her. She continued to throw clothes on her bed and not look at me. "On the bright side, I'll turn your room into a gym." I didn't get a response. I walked over to the corner. "I think I'll put the treadmill over here, but do you think I'll get too much of a glare from the sun out of the window?"
"I don't care," she mumbled.
"Do you think you can have your stuff out by tonight? My equipment is coming tomorrow, and I want to put it into place."
"I get it," Hannah said. "I'm angry with Aunt Gina."
"What do you want to do today? I don't want to spend all day sad," I told Hannah.
"Can we go to the beach?" Hannah asked.
"Sure, I was going to be going there today anyway," I said.
"Why?"
"Plans with Ashton. I cancelled after Aunt Gina calling me," I explained.
"Call him," Hannah said. "I kind of want to hang out with Rachel before I leave. I'll go to her house. Please, for me?"
"For you."
(A/N- I'm eh on this chapter. This story is probably going to be over the place with tour and Hannah, but I will try to keep everything in order.)
