Hayley:
I woke up at 10 AM. I loved sleeping in and it seemed like there may be quite a few more days that I could since we weren't going to be finishing the tour anytime soon. Plus the band and I were really working to make some top quality songs and we didn't plan on recording anything for at least another year.
The morning light streamed through the curtains that hung in front of the windows. Everything felt good today. I had been feeling much better and less weighed down since I had started trying to fix my problems. Today for some reason seemed even better than the others.
I decided to treat myself to some chai tea and cookies for breakfast. I rarely drank my chai tea because it wasn't always available at the grocery store and instead of stocking up I just made it a special occasion. It was delicious with a little milk added to it and some graham crackers dunked in it. I savored the cinnamon flavor.
After I was done with my delectable dining I brushed my teeth and got dressed almost forgetting to put my phone in my pocket. A little green light was flashing like I had gotten a text, but I ignored it. It was probably just one of my friends asking if I wanted to meet up this week and I could answer it later.
Taylor and Jeremy were waiting for me in the basement which we had thoroughly padded with acoustic foam and fiberglass. We had a condenser mic, bass amp, guitar amp, keyboard, drum set and computer all packed into the small space. I had installed an alarm system specifically for this part of the house because of all the equipment.
Even though we weren't planning on recording our album professionally for a while, we did constantly work on demos. We perfected them and made more and then picked the ones we liked the most dividing them up into files. It took a lot of patients, but it was worth it, none of us could have asked for a better job.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I ignored it, but after the second time I figured if I let the messages pile up I'd never sleep tonight. I unlocked my phone and looked at the first message: I just watched the latest episode of Modern Family it was hilarious. Tell me what you think when you watched it. It was nothing important just as I had suspected.
I read the second one: Hey Hayley, wanna go out? I hear there are going to be some real hotties at Coco on Thursday. You've been talking about seeing other people we should totally go! That one was a little more interesting, but still not worth wasting my time while I was with my band. We really should make this a no phone zone.
While I was already looking I went ahead and opened the last one: Tay overdosed on sleeping pills! I called 911 and we're waiting for an ambulance. She's unconscious! Her breathing is so light. I'm so scared right now! If you get this message anytime soon call me! I looked at the time she sent it 11.48 PM. Almost 12 hours had passed. I figured I would wait to call. She might be asleep since she was up so late or she might want some alone time if things went really bad.
"Guys I have some bad news" I announced to the boys.
"What?" they said in unison.
"Jenna sent me a message saying Tay overdosed last night. She didn't say what happened after. The ambulance hadn't even arrived when she texted."
Jeremy wiped his face with his hand and Taylor's mouth tightened into a straight line. We had all been worried this day would come. Jenna had been keeping us updated on how Tay was doing and after the first two consecutive attempts we knew the third was coming at any moment.
"What should we do?" I asked.
"What can we do? There's no way to get to them anytime soon." Jeremy replied.
"We should at least call. No matter what happened we need to find out and let them know we are here for them." Taylor added.
"Alright I'll try calling Jenna"
The phone started ringing and after the third ring she picked up. "Hello?" her voice was shaky and unclear. She was crying.
"Hey Jenna. It's Hayley."
"H..H..Hi Hayley. Th..thanks for calling."
"What's going on?"
"Um...well...Tay is...she's..." the line cut off and I stared angrily at my phone. How dare it cut off at that exact moment.
