It was a complete shock to me when the doctor told me that I had cancer and only a couple of years left to live. I sighed to myself and walked back to the agency. When I got back, I sat on one of the sofas before thinking to myself, this is bad! How am I supposed to tell Phoenix? And Trucy for that matter? They're going to be devastated! By the time I'd finished my inner thoughts I was pacing the agency and I was only brought from my trance by, "Miss (Y/n), why are you pacing?" I relaxed slightly when I realised it was Apollo, "I'm fine, Apollo. Just wanted to stretch my legs! That's why I'm pacing!" I noticed him wince but he didn't push it any further. Shit, I forgot about his bracelet! I'm not going to get out of it, am I?

It was a few weeks later when I returned one day to the agency after visiting my brother, that I finally had to spill, "(Y/n), what's this?" I looked towards where Phoenix was standing to see him holding a piece of paper in his hand. Upon closer inspection, I realised it was my doctor's list thing (my brain has malfunctioned rn and I can't remember what it's called). I froze up, "Nothing! It's nothing! Phoenix, please give it here!" I squeaked out running up to him and trying to grab the paper from his hand with little success. I them smirked before leaning up and kissing him, catching him off guard, making him drop it.

"I already read it, (Y/n). Why didn't you tell me you were going to die?"

I bit my lip, "I didn't want to worry you, Phoenix. You had a case that was stressing you out when I found out myself. I wanted you to concentrate on winning the case."

"Have you told Edgeworth yet?"

"No I haven't bloody told my brother!! He wouldn't care anyway. Since that incident, he's always been really cold towards me and ignored me every time I try to talk to him."

"You should tell him, it's a shock to us, but he needs to know."

"I'll tell him tomorrow, Phoenix. Please, just concentrate on the trial tomorrow though. Don't think about me tomorrow. Focus on the trial, okay?"

"I'll try."

The next day, I made my way to the Prosecutor's Office to tell Miles. Even if he wouldn't listen to me, I still had to try. Would he even realise that I wasn't there? That I was gone? By the times those types of thoughts had stopped coming to my head, I'd arrived. I walked up the twelve flights of stairs up to my brother's office and knocked.

"Who is it?"

"It's me, Miles, you know, you sister that you've been ignoring for the past 26 years," I replied through the door.

"Come in."

I breathed a sigh of relief, that he actually had time to talk to me and opened the door, entering his office, "Miles, there's something important I need to talk to you about." I closed the door behind me and turned towards where his desk was, to see him standing up, a cup of tea in hand and staring out the window...

"Miles?! Miles, please don't ignore me. This is serious!"

"Hm? Sorry, (Y/n), I hadn't realised you had come in. What did you want to talk about?" He asked, picking up a case file and looking and it. This got me pissed to be frank. I walked over to him and pulled it out his hand, "Can you stop working for five minutes?! This is important, Miles!"

"Make it quick though, (Y/n), I have work I need to do."

Now, shit.... I hadn't thought about how to tell him....

"Listen, Miles. I wanted to tell you, sometime in the near future, there'll be a time when you wake up one morning ans I won't be there," I spoke quickly before swiftly walking out his office and back to the agency. When I got back, I flopped onto one of the sofas that wasn't scattered with Trucy's magic stuff, "That's one burden off of my shoulders."

—————————— PHOENIX'S POV

The next day, I was sitting in the agency, looking over some paperwork from a recent case when I received an unexpected visitor, "Wright! I need to talk to you."

"Edgeworth, what are you doing here?"

"I need to speak to (Y/n). Where is she?"

"Currently at the courthouse," I replied stoically.

"You let her get arrested and you don't even defend her?! When kind of boyfriend does that?! Especially when you're a defence attorney, Wright?!"

I rolled my eyes, "She's not on trial, Edgeworth! She's defending a client, in fact that's where Athena is too, she wanted to help and Apollo and Trucy are at one of Trucy's shows. Did you even know she had received her attorney's badge?!"

"That makes more sense... wait, when did she?!"

"During the seven years I was disbarred for. The minute she found out, she went straight to law school to study and 3 years later, she had her badge. Really, Edgeworth, she's you sister, you need to spend time with her while you can cause one day, she'll be gone and you won't be able to."

"Wright, what do you mean 'she'll be gone and I won't be able to'?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

I sighed, "You know, Edgeworth, for someone who likes logic, you can't work out the simplest things. (Y/n) has cancer. She's going to die within the next few years," I replied, tears forming in my eyes, there had been a question I'd wanted to ask her.

"What?!"

"Don't tell me you didn't know...."

"Umm, well..."

"You didn't.... (Y/n) told me she told you yesterday! Were you not paying attention?!"

—————————YOUR POV

"Congratulations, you're completely cured!"

"Cured?! But how?! The last time I checked there was only a really really expensive surgery."

"Well, that's what was performed on you."

"WHAT?! But how? All tho money I make from being a prosecutor and Phoenix's lawyer payments all go to paying the Agency's finances. There usually isn't much left over."

"In that case, you'll have to thank your brother."

My eyes widened, "Miles?! You're pulling my leg! The last time I checked, he was a cold-hearted person that din't care about me at all, like for the past 26 years...."

"It's true, (Y/n). Edgeworth paid for everything." I turned towards my brother who was standing by the door and beckoned him over, "Miles, come here please." He walked over to me and I pulled him down, hugging him, eventually sobbing onto his shoulder, "Thank you, thank you so so much. I'm so sorry about everything I've ever said about you being cold or not caring about me because I know it's not true. You're my brother and I'm grateful for that. There's no one else in this world I'd rather have as a brother. I'm so grateful I have you."

"You're my sister, (Y/n). I'd do anything for you, you know that, right?"

"If I didn't before, I do now."

"Also, I believe that Wright has a question to ask you."

I turned back to Phoenix, "You do?" He nodded, "Yeah, I do. (Y/n), I love you so so much and I couldn't imagine my life without you. (Y/n), I want you by my side for the rest of my life, even if we're against each other in court, I know you've got my back and I'll always have yours. (Y/n), will you marry me?" He asked getting down on one knee and producing a ring. I smiled, tears n my eyes, "I'd love to marry you, Nick. I love you too!"
