" The Ro'meave family has fallen quite a way since fifteen years ago. They used to be a force to reckon with, I suppose it might've had something to do with the sons going missing... Garte was a cruel man, but Zane surpassed him in that regard. I had always wondered what had happened to cause him to be like that."
" Zane has always been that way."
Aphmau turned to her other friends, who had just appeared on the first floor of their temporary residence." Garroth, Alex."
" Good morning Aphmau, Katelyn... or, Afternoon I suppose."
Garroth continued speaking." Mother knew there was a cruelness in his heart, I remember it showing when he was a child. He was never kind to animals, and showed no empathy. Our father didn't help by harboring those tendencies..."
He paused his story to look at Katelyn, who was loudly going through the cabinets, once she stopped the noise, he continued to speak." Mother on the other hand tried her best, because she believed in him. She loved all children, no matter what... but Zane tended to do things on his own accord. Eventually, he did things without father's consult.
Katelyn spoke up." Hence the Jury of Nine."
" Yes..."
There was silence for a minute before Aphmau spoke again." I'm sorry Garroth, we didn't intend to gossip behind your back. I'd have asked you these things to your face, had you not overheard."
" I do not doubt you, I just wanted to clarify a few things... In any case, what's our next course of action?"
Aphmau sighed before responding." Well... I think we should stake out at Zane's house."
" Go to Zane's house again? But I thought you said there was no more information for us to at least go back there."
" There isn't, but we're not looking at any of Zanes notes... at least not the ones back in his house, I think we should follow the researchers, remember what those guards were talking about?"
" Again, Aphmau, Garroth and I weren't there when you and Katelyn heard the guards talking about Zane's house, the researchers, or the relics."
" Right, sorry. What they said was that anything the researchers find they report to whom ever's in charge here, maybe we can get some information from there."
" It sounds risky, but you're right. I don't think we have much choice, it's our only lead at the moment."
Aphmau nodded." Those researchers found something. They know about this new relic that Ivy has, maybe we can learn more about it, or at least try to take an advantage over Ivy, should we run into her again."
" I still can't believe she had a relic with her! Where in the name of Irene did she find one, and how did she even know about them!?" Katelyn finished her statement with a grunt of anger.
" Is something the matter with Katelyn?"
" She seems even more... irritable than usual."
Aphmau smiled at her other friends." She's hungry."
" I just want some darn breakfast!"
" I see..."
" Right..."
" Katelyn, I have this apple," Aphmau began to offer." You can-"
" That's your apple!"
The shorter of the two laughed." Don't say I didn't offer you anything then... but if you get any more angry I'll have to force you to eat this."
" I'd like to see you try, shortie."
" Hey! Don't underestimate me." She then laughed at her own pun as the others all shook their heads in reaction." In any case, let's rest until nightfall, honestly, going out during the daylight is asking for trouble."
_________________________________________________________
" Okay, well everything seems normal," Aphmau spoke as the four of them hid under a bridge for a moment." And it's pretty quiet, nobody seems to notice that we're here. Now seems like as good a time as any to get started. So, from here we're-"
Garroth interrupted her." Aphmau? I wanted to ask..."
" Yes?"
" For getting my mother out of jail... how should we go about it? Do any of you have any thoughts? I was thinking that I'd scope out the jail for any-"
" Hold on Garroth."
" Hmm?"
Aphmau sighed." Katelyn and I were talking earlier and... you're going to come with me, right Katelyn?"
" You're the wildcard here Garroth, so we're not gonna take any chances."
" What?"
" You're one to talk Miss 'I'm Hungry.'"
" Quiet you."
Again, Aphmau sighed." What Katelyn is trying to say, is that this is too personal for you, it's too close to home... literally... I know you care about your mother, and you want to help... but that's not the only reason we're here. You ran off on us once already, and honestly, we can't afford to take any chances."
" You bring up a good point... I suppose I've done myself no favors, so what do you need me to do?"
" You'll be coming with me to Zane's house, so we can get more information on the relic's, see who they're reporting to... Katelyn, Alex..."
" We'll see if there's any way to get Lady Ro'meave out of jail."
" Please do, the sooner we can do that, the better."
" I promise, anything within my power I can do to help your mother, I will."
" Alex," Aphmau looked at her friend." We don't want to cause a ruckus, at all."
" I take it that means no-"
" No breaking windows, and no punching things Katelyn, preferably no magic either, although the prisons here might already have spells on them stopping magical interference, we don't know if any of the guards may recognize the green glow your magic has, Alex."
" I'll try not to punch stuff."
" And so long as I can think of an alternative to getting Lady Ro'meave out, I won't use any magic."
" We're counting on you two. Now, let's try to meet back here in a couple of house, okay?"
" Okay, see you in a few."
" Stay safe, both of you... we'll get your mother out Garroth."
