" Gah! Why can't I stop thinking about her!?... Stop thinking about it, now is not the time... I need to focus on how I'm going to save my mother."
" Garroth?"
" Alex! I didn't hear you approaching."
" Alternate dimension travel, I find it safer..." She took a deep breath before speaking again." Aphmau sent me to help you get your mother out of O'khasis."
" Aphmau sent-?" Before Garroth could finish his sentence, the two heard a voice from nearby in the woods.
" S-stop it! Please! We need to get home!"
" Wait here, I'll see what's going on."
Alex sighed in slight annoyance before following her friend, heading to a clearing where two young boys appeared to be getting attacked by a couple of thieves.
One of the thugs laughed in response to what the younger of the kids had said earlier." Oh yeah? We'll let you go, just as soon as you hand over the money kid."
" B-but this is our money! We worked hard for it and ma needs it."
The older of the two kids stepped forward, using a tree branch for a weapon." Leave my brother alone you... you bullies! You have no right to take our money."
The other thief spoke." Hah! It sure feels right to me, what're a couple of snob-nosed brats gonna do about it? Now hand over the coin."
The older brother stepped forward, wacking both thieves with his tree branch, causing the first one to growl in anger.
" You shouldn't have done that, you little brat."
Garroth rushed out from behind the tree he and Alex had been hiding behind, weapon in his hand." Leave them alone."
The thieves turned to look at him.
" Looks like some idiot wants to get himself killed, happy to oblige."
Alex summoned a ball of green energy in one hand before walking calmly into the clearing." You know, he's giving you the opportunity to walk away from this now, which I think is the best option for the two of you at the moment."
" An idiot and a witch." The second thief spoke." Now things are getting interesting, a good beating always makes stealing from peasants more fun."
" I'm having a really bad day, so I'm going to give you one chance. Walk away. Now."
" What a joke. Now we're going to kill you, your girlfriend, and your new little friends."
As soon as the thieves moved to attack, Alex lept forward, throwing a shield in their air, and as soon as their weapons hit it, she and the shield both vanished, leaving Garroth to knock the two thieves to the ground.
" If I ever see you two around here again, it will be will be the end of you, do you understand me?"
Both guards lept to their feet.
" Yeah!"
" Yeah, you'll never see us again, no problem, nope! Never."
Garroth turned to the kids." Are you okay?"
The older boy spoke up excitedly." That was amazing! You sure showed them."
" Yeah, we're okay. Thank you mister, and miss if you're still around."
Alex reappeared." It's not a problem." She handed the older boy a bag of money." Just try to stay away from the woods if it can be avoided, they may not be the only thieves in these woods."
" You're welcome, now get home safe. You don't want your mother to worry... Oh, and you." He turned to the older boy.
" Yeah?"
" You did a great thing standing up to those men keep being brave, you'll make a fine guard one day... take care, and make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble."
" Mm-hmm! Now come on, let's go. Ma's waiting for us. I can't wait to tell her what happened!"
" I'm going to be a guard! I'm going to be the best guard in the whole world!"
Garroth looked down at the ground, speaking to himself." Mom... what am I going to do? I've got to find a way to save her..."
Alex put a hand on her friend's shoulder." Garroth, some way or another, you and your mother will be out of O'khasis."
" Alex-" He stopped speaking, hearing movement from overhead." What was that?"
The freckled girl stared up at the sky, noticing a familiar creature flying over the trees before landing." A Wyvern."
" Hello Garroth, Alex."
" You know my- our- names?... Wait, A wyvern... wait! Raven!"
" Yes."
" Raven! It's so good to see you! You can talk? This is spectacular! When did you learn to talk?"
" I've always been able to talk, you weren't able to hear me, until now."
" But how? The relic? What're you doing here? How did you even find me? And... how'd you get so huge?"
Alex opened her mouth, about to go through the most likely explanation she knew, but decided to let the Wyvern answer instead.
" Much has changed in your absence, but our bond remains. I sought you out once I felt your presence back in this realm. A Wyverns debt is no small matter."
" Raven... you don't owe me anything. You're my friend."
" Friend? Wyverns do not make friends... regardless, I have come to fulfill my debt to you."
" Like I told you, you don't-" He paused, an idea coming to mind." Raven, may I trouble you for a ride?"
" Of course, where are we going?"
" O'khasis."
" Very well, are you ready?"
" Absolutely."
A/N: I am so, so sorry for not updating for nearly a week, I just had a drain of motivation to write for a while, but I'm back with a nearly thousand-word chapter, which I hope is good enough to make up for the lack of chapters recently. As always I hope someone at least somewhat enjoyed this chapter, please comment if you feel like it, any to all comments make my day, and have a good day!
