Gohan in Boruto

Finale: Not Alone

Standing above the hospital, Gohan could feel his hands shaking. Now that he was healed again, he needed to face Majin Buu once more. 

In my current state, I'm still not strong enough. 

The night air brushed against his skin, sending shivers across his body. He couldn't tell if it was the weather or his nerves that made him quiver. 

"You're ok!" It was Sumire's voice. 

Gohan turned his head and found the class rep smiling behind him. "What are you doing here Sumire?"

"The moment I heard you were better, I called everyone over so we can come see you."

"Everyone?"

Sumire nodded. However, she could see that Gohan was uncomfortable. It was not the expression Sumire expected from Gohan. She was hoping he would be as happy as she was. "What's wrong?"

Gohan let out a small sigh. He looked over to what was left of Konoha. "I couldn't beat Buu the first time, and I can't beat him now. No matter how hard I trained these past months, I feel like it got me nowhere."

Sumire gave a small nod of acknowledgement. It was true that Gohan could not save the village, however, she always knew that having him by her side was special. "Gohan, I never truly got to thank you."

"For what?"

"For everything."

Gohan stayed quiet. 

"It's true that your failures can't be undone but...everything you've helped us achieve will never go away either." Sumire gave him a sincere smile. "You were as strong as you could ever have been, and we could not have asked more from you." 

Gohan was taken aback. Even in a time like this, Sumire was still full of hope.

"You got that right, class rep." It was Boruto's voice. 

He and a few other Genin were starting to walk onto the rooftop. "We couldn't have beaten the Otsutsuki without you Gohan."

Gohan turned his head around as more of his friends came to his side. 

"I owe a lot of my strength to you. You helped me get through the Inner Gates training," added Metal Lee.

Tsubaki slowly crept up next to Gohan."Y-you really did change my opinions on what it meant to be a ninja..." she whispered. 

Shikadai made his way over with the rest of the Genin. "Gohan, you once asked me why I haven't left with the other Chunin yet. I think I just enjoy being with everyone here. No matter what, we're all in this together." 

"Uh..." 

Gohan turned around. He could feel tears welling up in his eyes. The fear of facing Majin Buu left his mind. He could only think about how he was leaving with Trunks soon. 

All of them would be gone. 

He took a second to embrace the moment. He remembered Sasuke's words.

If you've spent enough time with them, you won't be sad about your friendship ending, but happy that it happened. No matter how far apart you are, your feelings will last forever.

Gohan smiled and wiped away his tears. He was not alone.

It was a cold night, but with his friends next to him, he felt warmth.
