Chapter twenty five - Visitor

Keira squeezed in between Melanie and Jason on the couch. Adrian had called a house meeting.
"I have a complaint," Adrian said. He glared at Keira as he spoke.
"You always have a complaint," Keira muttered under her breath. She hoped Adrian would hear it but he didn't. He continued to speak, never taking his eyes off Keira.

"Well it's more if a suggestion really. I think we should all agree on a curfew. I'm tired of hearing banging doors and footsteps at night when I'm trying to sleep."

"I think you should invest in ear plugs," Raymond replied cheekily.

Adrian clicked his tongue and ignored the comment. "Does anyone agree?"
Everyone raised their hands except for Keira; she sat with her arms crossed.

"Thank-"
"I think we all agree with Raymond," Melanie said.
Adria turned red and walked out of the room.

Keira suppressed a giggle and smiled at her housemates. She was glad she wasn't the only one who felt Adrian was a jerk. They could never believe the rumours he wanted to spread. A sudden tiredness swept over Keira and she stood up to go to her room.

"I'm taking a nap, please wake me up when its time for dinner."

Melanie nodded her head and Keira walked to her room slowly. She closed the bedroom door and a huge sigh forced itsef out of her. She felt pain in her back as she sighed so she scrapped the thought of washing her face. The soft covers of her bed welcomed her and the minute her head touched her pillow, her eyes began to close. The urge to read the Peacemakers book was strong but Keira could not bring herself to get up and fetch it from her backpack.
Her backpack? Keira jumped up and searched around her room for her backpack. She could not remember if she had brought it in or if she had even retrieved it from the training compound. The hope that someone may have taken it for her was relieving but the thought that they could open her bag and go through her belongings was unsettling. She wanted to get up and ask about it but she was just so tired. It wouldn't really matter if the book was stolen anyway, she had decided to chose the life that her parents wanted her to lead it. It was the honourable thing to do.

As Keira closed her eyes, the stone on her neck began to itch. She shifted it and scratched but it continued to irritate her. When Keira unlatched the necklace, the stone attatched started to glow and heat up. Keira rubbed her eyes to make sure she was seeing right.

Odd. Keira placed the necklace underneath her pillow and closed her eyes again. An uncomfortable heat spread through her scalp and with eyes closed, she could see red instead of darkness. With a quick flick of her eyelids, Keira realised that her pillow was glowing. Frowning, she moved her pillow and placed it at her feet. The stone continued to glow and the light seemed to spread around her until the whole room was illuminated. Keira felt more intrigued than nervous. She picked the necklace up slowly without touching the stone and she brought it up to her face.

Someone barged into Keira's room without knocking and the stone immediately dimmed. Keira dropped it as quick as she could and sat up in attention.

"What?" Keira answered to the intruder sharply.

"Here she is Christopher," Keira heard a male voice speak. She knew that voice all too well; it was none other than Adrian.

"What's going on?" Keira asked, more politely now that she had a visitor.

"I've come to fetch you, you've been called for questioning ." Christopher said, his tone monotonous.

"Questioning? What for?" Keira was confused. She hoped that Adrian hadn't reported her.
