Author's note: So, here it is.. I haven't written any kissing scenes in my life.. I hope it's not too awkward. If you have any suggestions on how to improve, that would help (:

Enjoy ;)

Chapter Ten - The Distraction

"Ready?" Xander asked Keira as he walked into the main lounge where Keira was seated.

She looked up and nodded, not wanting to say anything. Keira new she might burst into hysterics if she did.

Xander sat next to her and his arm brushed Keira's softly, causing her heart to skip a beat. Keira watched him as he opened the book they had been going through the day before. He opened to a page in the middle of the textbook and Keira's heart almost exploded at the words on the page.

Peacemakers.

Before she could say anything Xander spoke, "I just wanted to go through this so you know the reason why I didn't want to talk about Peacemakers."

"Thank you," Keira said and a small smile spread across her face.

She was glad that he had made an effort to at least give her a tiny bit of information about the peacemakers.

"No need, I am your tutor after all," Xander replied.

Keira frowned at his sudden formal tone. He began to read, and Keira felt more and more uncomfortable as he did. The way Peacemakers were described and hated was horrible. Keira felt like if they still existed they would be treated the same way that ferliobogs were treated. Xander seemed surprised as he read and Keira began to question if she was the first person he had ever done this with.

"Are you sure of what you're reading?" Keira asked.

"Yes- why?" Xander raised his right eyebrow.

"You seem shocked," she paused for a moment and when he didn't deny Keira continued, "have you done this before?"

Xander frowned, ignoring her question and he continued to read.

Keira noticed how he tried to keep his shock hidden and how his voice had become monotonous and not as lively as before.

Nevertheless he read on, until the last paragraph. At the end of it, his face was glowing with sweat. His jaws were clenched and he wrung his fingers to stop himself from raging.

Xander thought that Keira would probably probably horrified and wouldn't want to continue. What he had read scared him quite a lot considering the things he had been doing behind the councils back. If they knew that he-the poor boy that they had rescued from the Ferlioboa forest- was a spy, he would be prosecuted. It came as a surprise when Keira spoke without a quiver or any hesitation. For someone who seemed to be so fragile and soft, she was quite strong. If it scared him that much, she should've been in tears.

"What do you think of peacemakers?" Keira asked, making eye contact with Xander.

Xander stood up to face the wall and he stared at one of the pictures that had been framed. He needed something to distract him from Keira, those eyes of hers made him want to tell her everything. Xander had gone through the topic with her was because he didn't want to let her know how he felt about it. Xander thought that Keira would probably disagree and call him crazy. Despite the incident with the ferliobogs, she seemed to want to be a guardian. Well, at least he thought so.

Keira followed him, interested to hear what he had to say and gasped when she saw a picture of her parents.

Why hadn't she seen this picture before?
