Chapter twenty seven - The beginning - Part two
"No one must know," Keira said. She knew that the head guardians would surely throw her out because she was a danger to everyone around her.
"No one does. I'm the only one who knows your full name,"
"How?" Keira was relieved but still curious.
"I am of Peacemaker descent. When my father was killed by Kriagdor and Taurma, my mother thought it best to send me here. She knew that as soon as I grew up, they would come for me too."
"Why?"
"It may not look like it, but when you said that the ferliobogs are a different type of creature you were right. I have just grown up with hate for them because they robbed me of my father. I am of Peacemaker descent, but I also have Maflkakof blood running through my veins. My family was never evil, but the Ferliobogs thought that eventually we would turn evil and destroy them all. I have that killer instinct in me, but I've turned it into determination. I am determined to keep humans separated from ferliobogs because I don't want history to repeat itself. If there is any more misunderstanding one species will surely kill the other, and it won't be just a few men. "
"But we are meant to live in harmony," Keira protested. What was so hard about that?
Beads of sweat had begun to trickle down Keira's forehead, the room was getting hot. She wiped the wetness with the back of her hand and stared at Marvin for an answer.
"What if the only harmony we can have is separation?"
The question repeated itself in Keira's mind a few times but she could not answer it. He was right but they both knew it could never happen. Keira decided that the question did not need answering.
"Marvin, something is about to happen," Keira shuddered. She grabbed something, anything for support and collapsed into the armchair beneath her. The adrenalin had died down , leaving the feeling of exhaustion and injury in her body.
"You need to rest Keiraina, this isn't even the beginning."
With great effort Keira lifted her knees to her chest and lay her head on them for a while. She felt sharp pain all over her body. It was like her chest was made of glass and was shattering repeatedly: sending shards of pain into every limb. With eyes shut, she sighed, hoping that Marvin was still there.
"I'm ready for whatever is coming my way but I do not have the physical strength. If anyone is going to sort this mess out, it might have to be me. Everyone else is too stubborn or too busy caring about themselves."
Silence.
Keira opened her eyes and looked up to where Marvin had been standing. His disappearance could only mean one thing. He had gone to call someone, Xander or maybe even Mr Briggs. Marvin cold understand where Keira was coming from, but he had chosen his side long ago and he knew where his loyalty lay.
Keira unclasped the chain of the necklace and let it fall to her lap. She felt her chest with her hand.
Clespe, what a weird name.
Right in the centre, like it was part of her ribs, a bump the size of the stone had formed. It hurt when she brushed her fingers over it; like the sting of a wasp and the burn of a hot iron.
Weird.
Keira figured the bump was from the pressure. Whatever stone this was, it had saved her, there was no doubt about that. With a heavy feeling in her chest, Keira used the soft armchair to support her as she stood. It was best to get some rest in a proper bed. She thought of going to the student compound, but something stopped her. Fear. She didn't want to be attacked on the way there or when she got there. Her friends would still be having their dinner and once again, no one would hear her cries for help. Keira decided to sleep in the room she had used when she was recovering. The head guardians were on their way and she could get a few minutes of sleep before they got to her.
Keira removed her shoes and climbed into the double bed. She covered herself with the soft quilt and curled up into a ball. Her head was spinning and screaming but she closed her eyes and let the tiredness take over her body.
It felt like it had only been seconds when Marvin shook Keira to wake up. Keira whined, and turned towards the wall.
"You don't have to sit up or anything, we just came to see if you are okay," Mr Briggs spoke.
Keira sat up with speed and her eyes shot daggers at the man. All she wanted was a break, did they not have the decency to wait?
"Okay? Okay? I have just been attacked by a bunch of creatures and you use that word to describe my condition? I almost died, again, no thanks to your safe region and your reliable guards."
"I'm sorry, I do not understand, I think your exhaustion is magnifying your frustration."
"I think your ignorance is going to get a lot of people killed."
"Maybe we should do this another time?"
"There isn't much time left."
Keira felt the sharp pain in her chest again. Her legs gave out and she collapsed, her head hitting the bed post. Black spots turned into swirls and then nothing.
Marvin rushed to Keira's side as she fell. He lifted her from the ground and placed her on the bed softly. The exhaustion had finally taken her out, like he had hoped it would. The girl needed a lot of rest before what was to come.
