Chapter three - The Shed
Keira woke up to the sound of a hooting owl. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes to see where she was. It was dark, and the room reeked of fresh manure and raw meat. She wasn't sure where she was, or where she had ended up after the horrible taming session. All she knew was that she wanted to run away from the academy and try to do something to help the ferliobogs.
Keira figured that she was in a room; she didn't remember getting into the shed though. To make sure that the shed was big enough to contain her, she stretched her arms out above and beside her. She hadn't touched any walls or a ceiling so she decided that it was safe to get up.
The room was stuffy, indicating that it was big enough for her to stand in, but not big enough to keep her from having a claustrophobic attack. She exhaled and inhaled slowly, while feeling the walls around her for a door.
Behind her, something dropped. It sounded like a small cardboard box with a few books inside. Whatever it was probably didn't weigh much. She shook her head, ignoring it and continued to look for the door. All that she had was her senses of hearing, touch and smell. She could feel the cracks in the walls but no light was shining through to guide her.
The object started to move, it's rasping and scratching distracting Keira and causing her to panic. Whatever it was, it didn't sound friendly. It was hissing and growling, it even seemed to grow bigger as it closed the distance between itself and Keira. She took a deep breath in and tried to exhale, but the warmth of the creature next to her forced her to keep it in.
The creature moved away, she didn't know where to but as soon as she thought it was gone, she let out a sigh. Another object fell, and this time she knew what it was. It sounded like a tin can, or a small knife.
A knife?
Her mind raced, trying to find a possible explanation for the tin can. She tried to keep her thoughts positive but her heart was starting to beat faster and her breaths getting shorter, more rushed and shallow.
She knelt down and started to crawl. It would be easier to escape that way. She felt around with her hands and made a turn she thought would lead her to the room with the door.
The thing was right behind her now, following her, but she couldn't hear it, her focus was on getting out of wherever she was. She crawled until she bumped into something hard with her forehead.
"Ow," she whispered to herself.
"Kadire lo magoet tinaj rebojll," a voice replied to her and Keira blinked in confusion.
Her heart skipped a beat, it didn't sound like a human voice, it had way too many undertones and the language was unlike anything she'd ever heard. She was sure that even the African regions would be confused by it.
She stood up quickly and stretched her arms out. She could almost touch the cold wooden walls.
Not good.
Her heart started to beat faster and she fought to push her claustrophobic thoughts away but was futile. Her mind raced, making the space smaller than it actually was. Keira's hand started to shake, and with every step, her breaths became faster and more strangled now. There wasn't enough space for her to feel secure, the creature was close, and she could feel it.
Keira stopped to control her breaths and reached out to the door, she was sure that there must be a way out.
Keira fumbled around the door until she felt the door handle. As soon as she turned it, she felt her legs being pulled from underneath her. In shock, she screamed while falling face down, her forehead hitting the ground and causing her to black out.

As soon as she regained her consciousness she started to thrash around to try and release herself from the creature's grip.
"Let me go!" Keira screamed at the top of her lungs.
The few seconds that she had been out had cost her. Whatever was gripping her leg had claws; she could feel the sharpness of the grip through her jogging tights. She struggled, clawing at the ground, trying to find something to hold onto.
The creature loosened its grip, and as she was about to get a way- it caught her again, ripping her tights and scratching her skin off. She bit her lip, trying to suppress the pain. She felt her calf go numb with pain and her head started to spin.
Keira's mind raced, trying to calculate how long it would be until the creature would loosen its grip again and how much time she had to run. She took a deep breath in and ceased to move. She wanted the creature to think that she was dead and that it didn't have to hold on so tight anymore. Keira whispered a prayer and shut her eyes.
To her surprise, the creature loosened its grip and dragged her more slowly and not as hard and rough as before. Keira gritted her teeth and twisted her body around in order to force the creature to let go. A wave of cold air hit her calf, making her flinch in pain. She jumped up, inflicting a serious blow in the creature's face.
The creature screeched and tumbled back. Its victims usually didn't fight back. Once you were caught by a Maflakof there was no way out. Its venomous bite could kill a hundred men, and it was known for ripping off the limbs of its prey, leaving their torso to rot or be devoured by the Vulturapters.
Keira turned around to run when her legs collapsed underneath her again. The Maflakof had recovered quickly and was now angrier than before. Its grip was tighter and more painful now. She felt the claws digging through her skin and cutting through her flesh as she struggled and kicked to loosen its grip the final time. Its claws dug in deeper, making Kiera scream.
Keira tried to find another way to escape but all she was thinking of was how she was going to die and how painful it would be. The creature let go of her calf and lifted her up with its tail, to get a better view of the meal he was about to have. Keira felt its hot stinky breath on her face and she fought to stop herself from inhaling the venomous air.
The Maflakof hissed and smiled. The creature he had engulfed in his tail smelled like a good meal. He brought her closer and whispered in her ear,
"Ko mogaraga ionoh."
A statement, used to declare a victim dead, and ready to eat.
Keira wiggled until the tail was covering her shoulders. It felt warm but the scales were scratching her skin and making her feel extremely uncomfortable. She wiggled again, until she was sure that her mouth could touch the tail.
Without a second thought, she bit into it and ripped off a piece of scale. The Maflakof groaned, but ignored the pain and squeezed her tighter.
Don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, Keira kept repeating to herself.
Keira bit into it again, this time the bite was not so dry. She felt a metal tasting liquid running down her tongue. It was hot and it made her tongue feel like it was on fire.
The creature laughed and Keira closed her eyes, bracing herself for the pain she was about to experience. She tried to bite one more time but the Maflakof squeezed her, causing her to cough up her own blood.
The creature was suffocating her; she could feel her ribs being crushed and her lungs popping. She struggled one more time, trying as hard as she could to lift her arms and push the tail away.
Another squeeze and she felt her heart slow down and her brain start to shut down. The fear that she had tried so hard to push away gripped every part of her so much so that her body completely shut down, leaving a still and lifeless body in the tail of a venomous creature.
