Chapter Nine - Electricity
Xander got up from where he had been sitting and he checked his watch. It had been two hours since Keira had gone in and it was worrying. All of this led to one thing, Keira was a chosen one. No normal guardian in training would want to visit ferliobogs and stay for such a long amount of time. Even her question had been something out of the ordinary. She was too inquisitive to just be curious and too emotional to just be bothered.
Xander checked his watch and decided to wait for a few more minutes. When Keira didn't limp out of the compound, he walked to the gate and slowly opened it to get to the other side. He closed the gate behind him but made sure not to lock it as they would both be trapped inside of he did. He felt his way through the darkness and came to a halt at the first stable. A silver ferliobog was crouching and nuzzling something small that looked like a dead animal.
Wait. Silver? Xander looked again, examining the scene properly. It was Keira. There had never been a silver ferliobog to be captured, well, he ones he had seen were all bloody with blotches of different colours on them.
Without any hesitation, Xander opened the fence and walked into the small area. The ferliobog started to whine and growl but he continued to get closer to Keira, with his hand outstretched to try and calm the ferliobog down.
Keira was still breathing, Xander could see that, but she lay on the floor like an overused rag doll. Xander shook his head and picked Keira up in his arms. He moved quietly towards the door making as little noise as possible. He used his foot to push the fence and he carried Keora to the gate. As he got to it, he saw a figure walking from end to end, guarding the gate.
He sighed and looked up to the sky. It's grey-blue colour warned him that the sun was about to rise. Xander realized that he had waited too long for Keira to come back, and now, there was no way out.
Xander turned around and jogged quietly to the end of the compound. It took him quite a while and by the time he had reached what he thought was a gate, his feet were burning in his shoes and sweat was running down his forehead.
Xander could feel the heat of the sun on his back and it worried him to think of what could happen if Keira was found to be missing without her wheelchair.
I just need a way out, Xander thought to himself.
He lay Keira down on a patch of grass and searched along the fence to see if there was an opening.

Keira sat up and yawned. She watched the strange man walk across the side of the fence and then back again. His hair was short and wavy, and the blonde highlights glimmered in the sunlight.
"Xander?" Keira called out.
"Good morning," Xander replied in a stressed sing-song voice.
"What are you looking for?" Keira asked.
Xander frowned and ran his fingers through his shiny brown hair.
"There! I got it! Let's go. Come, Quick!"
Xander shouted and grabbed Keira by the arm, pulling her to a specific part of the fence.
He crawled through a hole and motioned for Keira to follow.
Keira screwed up her face and folded her arms. She was not about to get her clothes any dirtier than they already were. And those sharp edges where the fence had been taken apart! The last thing on her mind was to actually get onto the ground and rub her legs and arms against the murky mud and the wet green grass.
