Chapter eighteen - The date

Keira packed her essentials into a black leather satchel her father had given to her when she was younger. She ran her fingers over the blue and gold guardian badge that he loved so dearly. Keira tightened the strings and clicked the top flap to close the bag. She opened her closet and grabbed her black jacket. Flicking the light switch off and smoothing her curtains, Keira walked out and joined Melanie in the living room.

"Perfect," Melanie said.

Keira was about to thank her but was interrupted, "-you have beautiful eyes. We need to make them pop."

"Uh, I don't wear makeup," Keira said, trying to be firm.

She almost cringed at the thought of the sticky black stuff Melanie was about to apply to her eyelashes. It wasn't her thing and it never would be. It scared her to make herself look more glamorous. It was like lying. A thing her parents had repeatedly told her was not to be done. Keira frowned as Melanie pulled out a thick stick that looked like a pen.

"Here sit," Melanie said, ignoring Keira's grunts and complaints.

"Oh don't be dramatic, it's just a little Mascara, it won't kill anyone," Melanie chuckled.

It puzzled Melanie how Keira was reacting. Who hadn't put on makeup before? The wonders it could do to make one look brighter and fresher were endless.

"There," Melanie almost yelled as she finished applying the Mascara.

"Wow.. It actually makes a difference.. A huge difference,"

Keira frowned at Melanie's grin.

"Mel's right," Raymond said.

"Ma chérie," Raymond smirked sexily and helped Keira up, "Would you be my date this evening?."

Keira felt herself blushing at this question. Of course he wasn't serious, but it just made her feel nice to have someone pretend to want to be her date.

"Gladly," Keira smiled and looked up at Raymond.

For a moment she got lost in his hazel eyes. A quick flash of something waved over his expression and then disappeared as they made eye contact. Keira linked arms with Raymond and held onto his hard bicep. Keira noticed how uncofortable Raymond seemes, so she pulled her arm back. As she was about to move it, Raymond pulled her closer and relaxed.

Awkward.Melanie winked at Keira and picked her bag up so they could leave.

As they were leaving, Adrian and Jake walked in, their presence unsettling. Both seemed to be quite upset at something and had their fists balled up. Keira snuck a look at Jake and caught his eye for a moment. His anger turned into surprise, and Keira smiled then turned around to watch where she was going.

Jake looked at Keira a little longer and felt his face warm up. Those beautiful green eyes had worked their magic again. He wanted to follow her.

Keira laughed at Raymond's snake story and kicked a stone as they walked. She wouldn't say much, and couldn't think of anything to say, but Melanie and Raymond kept the conversation going.

The three students walked to another part of their region, just near the arena and the wellness centre.

A humongous black and grey building, towered over them as they walked past many other teenagers, who were dressed like them and seemed to be having a good time. The building, had a hundred floors, each with different restaurants, boutiques, shops and chilling areas where the students could entertain themselves when they weren't training or studying.
