Chapter fourteen - Purple

"What was that?" Xander almost shouted as he followed Keira into the room she would be sleeping in.

"What was what?" Keira turned around, confused.

"You have no idea who Miedesa is, you can't talk to her like that. She is one of the most powerful of shapeshifters," Xander said.

"So? She had no right to treat me like that," Keira replied calmly.

"She has every right. Safety measures Kaira, no one can be trusted."

"My name is not Kaira."

"There have been many intruders, and with the way things are going; your guardians could send more, Maflakofs could attack. She had no choice," Xander continued, ignoring Keira's remark.

"She still shouldn't have done that. How can you clamp someone down, even after they tell you the truth? What then does that become? And you can't just say they're mine. We are in this together."

"Like I said, it's happened before, and she trusted the girl. By the time she realized what was going on, it was too late."

"Still!" Keira whined.

"No still, you should've just waited, we would have arrived in a few minutes anyway."

"And then what? She would have woven me into a spider web and thrown me out? Why did you leave me anyway? How didn't she know that I was with you?" Keira asked.

"I..."

"You don't trust me do you?" Keira asked with her eyebrows raised.

"Yeah just go to bed. It's not like I followed you out of the boundaries and listened to you when I felt you were close to killing me."

"I didn't say I don't trust you," Xander sighed.

"No, it's okay, I get it."

Keira turned her back on Xander and covered herself with the quilt at the end of the bed. She didn't know what to feel. A sinking feeling settled in her chest. If Xander couldn't trust her, who would?

Keira turned around half an hour later to find Xander asleep with his head buried in his hands. His muscular back rose and fell slowly and quietly as he slept off the tiredness of the journey he had just had.

Keira watched him and lay her head down on the soft cotton pillow on her bed. She inhaled the fresh smell of the pillow and closed her eyes.

Keira woke up to the sound of her hammering heart and looked up to the ceiling. She wandered what time it was. Being underground and in the darkness all the time made her a bit uneasy. She sat up and skimmed the room for any sign of a clock. The sound of tick tocking rang in her ears and she was sure that it was somewhere near her. Keira turned around to look at the headboard, and sure enough, it was just above.

With a quick flick of her hand, she switched off the lamp beside her and slumped back onto the bed. Her eyes travelled to the ceiling and she stared at it, while her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She followed the intricate patterns on the ceiling with her finger and made out shapes and pictures of her own.

The door opened with a scratching noise and Keira jumped up into a seated position.

"I'm sorry my dear, I just came to wake you up. Uh, breakfast is ready," Talieyes smiled and he backed out of the room, closing the door quietly.

Keira got up from the bed and made her way to the bathroom. She washed her face and rinsed her mouth. When she was done, she went back to the bedroom to wake Xander up.
