I'm learning, I'm learning about Tithing
All my life I continually heard the reminder to give my tithe. My father would stress the importance of it to my siblings and me. As a child I would try to keep my tithe there were times where I was successful and the other times and mostly I would spend it to buy some junk.
The church that I grew up always had a special part of the Sunday service to have a short sermon of giving to the Lord. Usually the pastor would tell the congregation "turn to your neighbor and say it's offering time" they would stress the wonderful blessing given by God if you gave your tithe. So for many years I believed that in order for you to get your blessing you should give your tithe. Sunday in Sunday out I'd hear the same message.
I got my conclusion that TITHE =BLESSING.
Malachi 3:8-10 "will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me! But you say 'in what way have you robbed me'? In tithes and offerings, you are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this" says the lord of hosts "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.
This scripture has been twisted by the devil and abused; he has focused it more on the blessing part rather than the important fact that it is first and foremost a commandment in which OBEDIENCE is expected. Some how the blessing which had a promise attached to it is far more focused and glorified. The reason of the tithe is to support the work of God and the people in ministry.
Theis same church which I grew up in had the devil infiltrate the churches by asking people to sew a "seed offering"
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked: for. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap, for he who sows into the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the spirit reaps everlasting life.
This concept of "sewing a seed" in the form of money is brainwashing people to believe that you will reap a harvest of money the danger of this is that it becomes a form of gambling. I remember the pastor at the childhood church repeat this phrase "the more you give the more you will receive" it was twisted to suit the sermon of giving more whereby in actual fact the phrase came from "it is better to give than receive".
1 Timothy 6:9-10 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
How heartbreaking that the word of God is been crippled for the lust of money. Man has made the joy of giving turn out to be a way of getting rich.
Mathew 6:4 that your charitable deeds may be in secret and your father who sees in secret will himself reward you openly.
This scripture talks about giving to the poor without being seen without the whole world knowing this concept also applies to your tithe and offerings, it's not anyone's business to know that you are giving to the Lord, giving is an act of worship to Him. Even in Malachi it doesn't state writing your name and the amount that you give, the commandment is clear to just give.
I realized that the moment you identify the amount of tithe you give, the people who handle the finance begin the treat you differently, if you give more than your treatment is better than the one who gives little. I also realized that stating your name when giving your tithe feeds our pride and slowly loses its worth, becomes a competition rather then it being an act of Love to God.
Your tithe and offering was never meant to give you recognition nor was it meant for the whole world to know, it is a sacrifice that is done in secrecy. Giving is exactly like fasting and prayer it is done all in secrecy. It is an intermit expression and it is done out of truth and love when hidden from the public.
I now give my tithe anonymously knowing that it's between me and my heavenly father which makes giving even more meaningful. Are you giving for the sake of just receiving a blessing or are you giving because it is a commandment from God in which you want to obey him, and that you give because you want to support Gods ministry?
I'm learning, I'm learning about tithing
